Intermat (IM) came out w/ the first set of PS rankings, and to no ones surprise IOWA and PSU are runaway favorites for the team title. They finished 1 and 2 last year, and w/ the Covid rules, everyone is coming back. Here's the top 10 last year:

2021 NCAA Final Results
Team Scores
1 Iowa 129.0

2 Penn State 113.5
3 Oklahoma State 99.5
4 Arizona State 74.0
5 Michigan 69.0
6 NC State 68.0
7 Minnesota 64.0
7 Missouri 64.0
9 Ohio State 46.5
10 Northwestern 45.0

Any guess at a PS poll would have all of these teams in a similar situation. Here's where IM has them now:

IM PS Poll 2021-22
1 Iowa Big Ten 120

2 Penn State Big Ten 103
3 Arizona State Pac-12 60.5
4 Oklahoma State Big 12 58.5
5 Michigan Big Ten 57.5
6 Missouri Big 12 49
7 Cornell EIWA 47
8 NC State ACC 43.5
8 Minnesota Big Ten 43.5
10 Ohio State Big Ten 41

Where last year had everyone thinking IOWA in a blowout, PSU was breathing down their neck, w/ OKST a not too distant 3rd. I'm not too sure IOWA will be able to hold them off this time, but time will tell. tOSU, 9th last year, is in a similar situation, but a top 5 finish isn't too far of a stretch. A lot depends on how well Kharch comes back from his injury, if Romero and Smith can build on their results from last year, and throw in questions about Heinselman, Ech, and nearly everyone else in the lineup not named Sasso. In other words, tOSU has Sasso and a bunch of maybes. Enough commentary for now. Here's the IM PS AAs (and tOSU guys) w/ all #1 guys and OH HS guys in bold:

Note: I think IM is guessing somewhat at some of these weights. For instance, I don't think Ech is a 133 for tOSU and not sure about Rocky at 197 for tOSU.

No way Ech anywhere near 133, he's big at 141.... and 11 for Romero seems low. Oh well, the just just throw these out to give us something to yap about

Could someone clarify if ALL classes get 1 more year of eligibility or if ONLY seniors last year will get the additional year?
For example, if I was a Junior last year and wrestled enough to consume a year of eligibility, do I now have 1 more year of eligibility or would I still have 2?

Why is Hart ranked so high? I don't mean that in a negative way towards him, I just do not see the results to justify that ranking. Nothing personal against the guy.

I believe every wrestler in 2020-2021 got a free year of eligibility.

He had a very good year last year. He was in the blood round and lost to Chad Red by 1 point at last years D1 Championship. He has progressed each year and looks to podium this year. JMO

I'd have him right below Sherman (who placed last year and had a win over Dom Demas), but those two are interchangeable at 6/7 I think. Three really good guys in the past at 141lbs were Yianni, Tariq (who both moved up), and SeaBass, who moved down, so the weight cleared out a little, hence some guys who haven't placed being ranked 6th.

Free year for all, meaning AJ Ferrari could be the first and probably only ever 5x D1 champ (however, I feel Braxton Amos won't let that happen)... only 4 4xers in the history D1, yet could have 4 more in 3 years. I don't like it personally. Kinda screws the non starting underclassmen. Get RS get extra year too... but 6 years of college isn't for everyone

Before he gets to 5 he has to win 2, 3, & 4. There’s a reason only 4 have done it. It’s really hard to do. Without doing a lot of research, Stieber and Dake both had ncaa matches they could have lost. Probably the same with Cael and Smith. A lot of guys win as freshmen and don’t get there. I’m not sure Spencer gets there this year without his knees. I hope he does but he struggled at ncaas last year.

The quarterfinals match last year at the NCAA tournament was pretty close until Spencer blew it wide open at the end.

Agree 100%. Like I said Mr deadlift has Braxton to deal with (could be great for 4 years).... Spencer the knees (cut off an arm and he still finds a way to win).... Carr a question mark, will he keep the passion? Many win as freshman and no more. Nato, Tshirt, Revera, Miles, a few from just lately.

That was the old one knee'd Spencer. The current no knee'd struggling Spencer outscores his opponents at 59-8 at the NCAA Championships. :censored:
You are 100% correct Phillips. Standards are set pretty high for the young man and he always seems to deliver. Eight points at the NCAA championships is pretty darn good in my book! And I have to imagine Larry and Mrs. Lee have him healed up pretty well by now so I’m not so sure if he’s knee less or not.

OK, I got trashed on that one, deservedly so. But I still am not so sure he does it this year. Vito and Glory are added to the mix this year. And I'm not sure if Suriano is at 125 or 133. And going a whole season w/o knees is tougher than losing his last ACL in the B10 finals (I think ), and then making it thru one more tourney. I'm a big Spencer fan and hope he does it, but I'm a little worried.

Not trashing here bdhof. I just got excited for some wrestling talk and manufactured a discussion. :p

I don't think Vito gets to 125? Greg D. Maybe? Suriano is a wildcard. Glory isn't getting the love he deserves...

Add Mark Hall and Vincenzo Joseph to the list. I'm sure there's plenty more out there. Hall went champ, 2nd, 2nd and Covid cancelation. Joseph went champ, champ, 2nd and Covid cancellation. Also, tOSU's MyMar, and from Ohio, Pat Milkovich and Dustin Schlatter. All told, there are about 20 who won as freshman and 4 who sealed the deal. And there were a few all time greats who weren't eligible to wrestle as freshman (per rules back then) such as Dan Hodge and Yojiro Uetake.

And Junior World champ Rocky Elam.

From Flo:
"After a stellar run at World Team Trials that saw Carter Young knock off Nahshon Garrett, Tyler Graff, and Seth Gross, in that order, the Stillwater High School grad has transferred from Northwestern to Oklahoma State."

He's not in the polls yet b/c he's a true freshman, but he's a top 3 guy at 133 - except Fix is there. I guess he'll RS unless Fix or Young are thinking of 125 (unlikely). If both are 133, one can RS (OLY RS for Fix) then one of the two can bump to 141 next year.
