Final Comments:
This year's team presents itself with a lot of moving parts. Every year it seems we have to find the next good player out of our freshmen class and groom them into a starting role. This year we have 3 Freshmen in an absolute dogfight for positions, amongst themselves but also with upperclassmen. Landefeld, Silva, and Griffith all have their own strengths and we plan to use them to the best of their abilities. The sophomore class has all continued to grow physically over the last year and as a result, the intangibles have caught up with them as well. This class is deep in outfield talent and boasts several pitchers that will see time as well in Bettinger, Fogle, Muntz, and the diamond in the rough Wesley Locke. Our Junior and Senior class returns 6 starters from the 2022 season and 3 all-district and league players as well. Look for a big year all over the diamond from Landon Lydick, Lane Demcheck, and Carter Knowlton who will all play their primary positions and see the mound as starters. The senior class making their last campaign is as solid as they come with their play and effort to groom these young guys as well. Xavier Kinney a Wheeling University Commit will anchor first base and bat leadoff, Jake Winland will anchor Short Stop and hit out of the 3 hole while Westin Swallow will play left field, first base, and DH out of the four hole.

As a coach, we have grown significantly through the first few weeks of practice, players are starting to surface themselves but also raising the play of their teammates around them. I look for Pitching and our offense to carry us through a lot of games. Our defense is good but outside of Kinney and Winland, we are young and the speed of play will certainly be eye-opening in the infield. I don't have any reason to believe that this team couldn't break the all-time win record at Monroe Central that was set in 05,06 and tied again in 14. I firmly believe this is an 18+ win team in the regular season. But their biggest hurdle will always be their response to adversity when it arises. That will tell us day-to-day what this team is really made of. Myself and the coaching staff look forward to a fun year of success and challenges.
