MLB Fires Umpire Pat Hoberg

Yes, it had to be done, but unfortunately he rated as one of the best ball/strike callers in the MLB. I believe he called a perfect game in the World series a year or two ago - every pitch where the batter did not swing was correctly called.

Meanwhile, some of the absolute hack umpires keep their jobs without any sort of performance review or risk of losing their job.

Careful, anything not overly-positive about officials/umpires will result in a stern lecture from OP.

Hoberg can apply for reinstatement next year. I’m guessing that will not happen, as baseball has taken a hard stance on anything in the realm of gambling.

This guy may be the dumbest person on the planet. In today's age, with technology, where you have to make and account with legitimate information to place bets on gambling sites, to actually do this? And I don't care if you don't bet on baseball, it's a HORRIBLE look. Now maybe back in the day when there was no technology and you had bookies and slips of paper, you could have a buddy place bets, but today? On top of that it appears he was a great umpire. Why risk it?

The impetus to reform the NCAA may come from the explosion of on line gambling platforms.
