Fort Recovery is moving from a state championship coach to an unproven assistant coach. No telling which way that will go, though I tend to agree with the optimistic outlooks I am reading.

Niekamp is a nice guy and all but his coaching pedigree outside of the years those 2015 seniors being on the team isnt very impressive. Hard to see it going any further south with a new face and somewhat of a local hero to boot.

Any chance we could re-rank the MAC teams for the 2025 season after the purple and white news. Rome wasnt built in a day, but with this hire I see FT recovery going 6-4 this season
what did you see their record before Wenning was hired?

3-7/4-6 would be an upgrade. We were 3-8,1-9,2-9 the last 3 seasons. We haven’t won more than 5 games since 2017. In his 21 year tenure as FR HC we won only won 5 or more games 5 times (2007,2014,2015,2016,2017).
FR classes of 2015-2018 were tremendous for FR athletics. Class of 2015 got FR to the playoffs in football and started the program's momentum, and also led us to state in baseball. 2016 brought home a state championship in football and led us back to state in baseball. 2017 included quarterback Caleb Martin and 2018 included running back Will Homan and both 2017 and 18 included some of the best offensive and defensive lineman FR has ever had.

Who are FR's first two opponents? At least one win against the non-conference foes would be great for the Indians.

I think we dropped both Urbana and Wayne Trace, if I'm not mistaken (totally could be). Heard we picked up Allen East, can't remember the other one.

3-7/4-6. Being optimistic here, flipping DSJ and a Versailles/Minster/New Bremen. You never know. Maybe they stay 3-7/4-6
Let's take a look at the schedule

FORT RECOVERY
1(H) Dayton Ponitz- W Running Clock. Ordinarily I'd crap on a MAC team for scheduling a Dayton City League school but honestly it's the perfect game to start a rebuild.

2@ Allen East - Push. Very evenly matched contest that could go either way

3@ Coldwater- L. Probably won't fair too good but what I'd want to see from them is some effort, enthusiasm, and some progress

4(H) St. Henry- L. Not this year. Maybe next year. The Redskins are going to be good this year.

5@ Delphos St. John's- Push. Again it depends on what athletes Coach Wenning can get back out for football. This Probably can go either way.

6(H) New Bremen - L. Just a bit too much Cardinals. A good game to be competitive and show some life in.

7(H) Marion Local- L. Hopefully you're able to fire the cannon.

8@ Parkway- W. Winnable game for the Indians in year 1.

9@ Anna- L. Should compete with but it'd be quite the jump to beat them.

10(H) Minster- L. See Anna.

Floor: 3-7
Cealing: 5-5

It'd be awesome if the Fort can start 2-0 and build some momentum before the tough MAC schedule begins.

Good luck Coach Wenning!

I'm telling you if the MAC fully embraced the sport, they'd dominate it too. Congrats to Mr. Kessen.
DSJ, Coldwater, Versailles and Parkway have wrestling. Those schools do okay so I don't think the MAC would dominate if more schools took up the sport. I really can't understand why no other MAC schools take up wrestling. There are plenty of kids at those schools who don't play basketball and would succeed at wrestling. And many college football coaches looks for kids who wrestled.

The problem for this area and not just MAC schools is finding enough high level competitions/competitors and having an RTC. Sounds like Defiance & Lima area starting some and Ft Wayne has a couple. Marion Local could have some good upper weights if they had someone teaching techniques and starting a program. Believe Ft. Recovery started one and maybe Minster has as well?

Delphos has the Tri County Wrestling Club which is a youth club. They teach technique, etc... and compete in tournaments. Looking at their facebook page they have 60+ kids. They serve a lot of area kids and give them a good start.

Marion’s issue is more in line with capacity facilities wise. Already have lower levels in basketball practices lasting till 9 pm. Hopefully new gym can help with that.

Are they getting college level coaching at Tri County? We used to see them at tournaments but not much if at all anymore. They had a mix of talent similar to all the school clubs is why I asked.

I told parents of our better kids to start going to Ft Wayne to WarriorRTC. Our club doesn't have the space or mat availability to get in depth & advanced during club practices like we'd like. It's going to be needed in D3 with Graham getting moved down and in the Troy District.

No to wrestling, ML has enough sports, focus on saving taxpayer money.

As far as lack of gym space, what MAC team is still left in the tourney in bball, which MAC school was the last to win a state title in bball. Success has very little to do with lack of gym space and lot more to do with coaching and some talent. Does Russia have a lot of gym space?

Edit: I admit when they built the "hangar" they lacked "vision" to put it politely.

Until someone big into wrestling moves in to the school and then it's going to get started. Plenty of athletes on the football team to supply all the winter sports. Only tax $ will be transportation as you can learn to share gym space or roll mats out in the cafeteria like many others. Plus you should spell it Maria $tein.

My point with gym space wasn't success in bball, but rather not having a place to have wrestling.

Put it under the mattress for a rainy day.

Will admit It was very stupid of them to put a huge concrete slab down for bus parking with the intent of ripping it all up 2 years later to do construction. That was poor planning.
