Marlington turns away Northwest Indians 17-7

LEXINGTON TWP. The Marlington Dukes’ defense dominated at the goal line Friday night.

Marlington (4-0, 1-0) stopped Northwest (2-2, 0-1) three consecutive times from the 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 17-7 high school football win at a packed Marlington Stadium.

Stopping opposing offenses has been Marlington’s strength as the Dukes have allowed 7 points or fewer in their first four games. Third-year head coach Ed Miley attributes the success to his defense’s will power.

“They want to be good,” Miley said. “They get it done on the field, they get it done in the weight room, and they get it done in the classroom.
