If there was a option to play up like in basketball, how many divisions jump could Marion Local play before they would get challenged,I think they could jump to d4 , and maybe make run to the finial 4,

I guess I was just couris, what everyones thoughts ,on many divisions jumps, before they would get challenged
At DIV, they'd have to contend with Glenville. At DIII, TCC. It would be interesting to see how they'd do playing up past D V. One year ML won at DVII, beat the DVI and DV champ. That's why I said DIV or DIII.

It's all a personel thing. If there was a season to play a higher division team or play in the D4/3 playoffs this would have been the year to do it just because of all the experience on the team. There weren't any growing pains like in other years. Next year, I would say D6 but this year I'd say 4.

They could schedule highly ranked D3 or D4 teams any time they want, there is nothing stopping them.

To your prediction I also think they could "make a run" in one of the D4 regions. But firm underdogs vs. Glenville, Perkins, Perry, prolly Lake Catholic. D3 odds are obviously longer. (minus Glenville who could compete there).

Not true actually. From what I've heard, we tried called up Perry since Gecewich is a former ML coach and he said no because they have no opening. You can't schedule someone that doesn't have an opening.

Obviously scheduling conflicts can exist but there are many top 10 options in D3 & D4. I do think ML could compete with several of them.
My question to you though is in week 1 we drove 4.25 hours to the middle of nowhere Indiana to play Linton Stockton. Do you not think all avenues were exhausted before agreeing to that trip?

That's what my issue with your premise of saying anytime we want. I don't think it's as simple as that. If it were, we wouldn't take those long trips. Especially this year I think Goodwin would have rather taken a good competitive game that we had a chance at losing within the confines of Ohio than driving way out there for one where the JV played the whole second half.

I think you think I am being disrespectful. I stated ML could compete with many D3 & D4 programs which is a HIGH compliment. But no, I do not buy that they have exhausted all their options in trying to schedule a single top D3 or D4 team, sorry.

A couple answers. 1) D6 - there's this program named Kirtland that can likely give them a go. 2) They would complete well in D4, but definitely be challenged by the better teams.

I think IV would be about where it tops on for them in terms of making consistent deep runs. I think they would fit in really nice in DV, especially in Region 18, although they would likely end up in Region 20. Region 18 has some nice programs. Liberty Center is usually a contender and plays hard nosed football. Edison has some solid years. Liberty Benton usually enjoy a 10-1 record each year. Although down this year, Archbold is usually solid. The NBC usually fields some nice competition with Oak Harbor, Eastwood, and Genoa. Even some of the bottom dwellers have rich program history with teams like Fostoria and Port Clinton. Not quite sure how teams like Johnstown, Fredericktown, Utica, East Knox, and Northridge end up in this region though. Those schools are closer to West Virginia than they are to Toledo. I digress. Anyways, Region 18 often sees solid DIV teams like Ottawa Glandorf and Otsego drop down and DVI Coldwater bump up to Region 18 as well. I think Marion Local would consistently be top 3 in this region and win it a lot of the time, but it would be a good fit.

Not taking it disrespectful at all. I agree with you on your point.

I'm questioning you saying we could schedule them ANY TIME we want. That part just isn't true. And I have a hard time believing all options weren't exhausted before driving 4 hours for a game. That just doesn't pass the sniff test. It takes a lot of resources for a school with 800 total student K-12 to drive 4 hours.

I agree that I think that they could compete pretty well in DIV, however as others have said the top teams of DIV are most likely out of their league (and those top teams are also out of the league of the bottom 95% of DIV to be honest.)

From what I have heard many D3 or D4 schools won't schedule them. It's a lose lose for them. They either win and get little points because it is a D7 school, or they lose to a D7 school.

All in all I think it is stupid that the OHSAA only allows schools to jump to D1. Why not let a team jump up to D4?

While on the subject, why not factor in post season success into division assignments? Many other states have it to where if you win a state title you're all but guaranteed to jump a division the next year.

I very much agree on the post season success adjustment, especially after back to back championships.

ML has 18 seniors this year - all of whom either start or play significant roles. If ML were to win state this year, why should it have to jump a division and compete against larger schools with a brand new crop of players next year?

If you want new champs every year I guess that’s one way to do it, but why would that be the goal?

To compete. Would have been cool to see what ML could have done in DV last year if they would have bumped up from DVI instead of dropping to DVII, and if they would have won last year it would be very interesting to see what they could do in DIV. ML is one of the best, if not the best program in Ohio but people that are not from this area look down on them for being DVII, I would love for them to be able to show the ignorance of that thought.

I think they would have one heck of a time beating Kirtland. That is just moving up one division. I don't think they could beat Glenville or Perkins in D4. D3 and up would be a no chance for Marion Local when it comes to the contenders.
Kirtland is by far the best match for ML. Would love to see them in the MAC.
