Any input from this event?
Here are my takeaways;
Springfield- Won every game in tournament play, defiantly looking to make another state final run. The new QBs are stepping up to the challenge and have improved tons in just a short amount of time. Haven’t seen much from the O & D line but their skill players are the best i’ve witnessed this offseason (haven’t seen every team so doesn’t say too much). Their receivers are all so explosive and able to go up and be aggressive with the football and able to make plays. On the other side of the ball, very few coverage errors, Aaron Scott Jr. is the real deal (didnt play his best this event, at the UD 7s he really showcased why he’s the #1 recruit in Ohio), every corner, like the offense, can get aggressive and make a play on the ball. They are definitely a final four favorite, and dare I say state finalist
Glenville- Struggled a little out of the gate (Springfield put 5 touchdowns up against them in game 1) but as the day went on the young guys started to step up for Glenville, and by the time tournament play came in, they lost to Springfield by 1 score. Their superstars shined this event, Bryce matched up well against whoever was infront of him all day, Damarion showcased his ability to be a force for defenses to deal with. While being a TE, he can still move like a receiver, which really makes him a threat. Aside from the stars, both QBs really seemed to understand the system, and get the ball where it needed to go, the other talented receivers made plays throughout the day, and the defense was able to cause some huge turnovers v. Springfield. Overall I expect Glenville to repeat in the state playoffs like they did last year, I am more excited to see how they navigate their very talented schedule they have this year.
Findlay- This is a squad who really can cause some issues this season. Led by Ryan Montgomery, team really has some potential. They make up for their lack of superstars in discipline and great play design, always managing to get somebody open with great ball placement every time. They fell to Springfield in the final round of the tournament, but looked well all the way through the day. Would be exciting to see them in Springfield match up late in the playoffs.
