Okay, what is the point of paying a women’s basketball coach over $3 mil a year when the program lost $6.5 mil over the past year? Men’s hoops at LSU made just less that $2 mil and football made nearly $40 mil. No other sport turned a profit. This could be any major college, but I went with LSU because they just gave Mulkey the new contract. The athletic department in total make over $6 mil profit, so football pretty much pays for everything.

So next time someone suggests a league move for any reason other that football, it’s not practical. Football drives the bus.

You know why...

It’s possible this sort of thing pushes ADs to forming a super league for football. Seems the only way to pay for things like this. It’s really the only sport that consistently makes schools big money.

Something is going on at LSU and women’s athletics. Not only are the coaches getting paid but they are also doing well in female NIL $s. Per On 3 the top 3 earners are from LSU totaling over $6 million with others further down the list:

But to what end? The programs still will lose money. Is it all about just being able to sell women’s programming to the SEC Network/ESPN? Just to sell that they are at least playing for championships while losing gobs of money?

So #1 is Livvy Dunn and she is in another universe. But #2 & 3 are LSU hoops players. I am guessing that Coach Kim Mulkey has sold some folks that this could be a dominating generational program and that everyone, including her, should get paid as it is positive pub for a fairly dirty athletic department.

Getting paid because she's capable of having them contending for championships every single year in what ought to be (distantly) the 3rd biggest sport in their program.

NIL and marketability. She's a coach with big personality. It's not a mistake that the two biggest earning women's basketball players are on her roster. At LSU, I think she can do that with some consistency.

I just don’t get it. She’s very pretty but has no boobs.

Yep, the universities will continue to lose money. These athletic teams, subsidized by the university will have certain members within iit make gobs of money. It is truly a bizarre situation. And these athletes actually then think they are being paid what they are worth. Lol.

Would you like schools to cut every program that they don't make money off of? And while woman's basketball may not show up on the books as making money at LSU...they more than make up from in the form of donors. And they offered her a contract paying that high because if not, someone else would.

Not hard to understand.

They can do whatever they want. But this is a farce. The idea that these women are somehow now earning what they are worth is completely silly.

I don’t believe that unless they have a daughter on the team.
Which is going to shock you...a lot of those girls that play sports also have families. Some of them happen to be wealthy and become donors to the program for years as they become "family". Matter of fact, people actually donate big chunks and make sure it goes to only female sports. Really tough to believe when you think nearly 50% of the country happen to be female. Guys probably only donate because their wife makes them right?

No, it’s bc women’s sports aren’t as popular.

People donate to all types of crap that isn't popular. Go to pretty much any Power 5 and you'll find a group of older fans who are a fixture at every female home game/match. Plus it also seems like every program has one random donor that throws money around to the point it's kinda creepy. Like they had an indirect connection to the program and just never leave. Some will leave a lump sum when they die.

Some colleges also "calculate" female sport donations as more Points towards whatever their Athletic Fund is. The more points you have the more access you get towards "Any" athletic event. For instance when I had my UK season tickets I had to make a donation to the K Fund for each seat. The amount I donated (points) put me into a certain level. That decided what tickets I could get for Bowl games and away games. But I was also that level if I wanted to buy March Madness tickets. So say $1 = 1 point for MBB/FB, some will give 2 points for every $1 to lady sports.

Hint...they're always trying to give away "FREE" points if you make another donation. Donate in this period and they count them x3.

I don't understand why people would donate millions to the zoos but it's probably because I'm not a big fan.
