Legalized Sports Betting Coming To Ohio

Ok, I'll be the dissenting vote. I think legalizing sports gambling the way it has been sweeping the nation is a terrible idea. We have enough issues with people and money problems. This is only going to make that problem worse. I don't bet on sports, I enjoy the sports themselves and I frankly like my money too much to give it away.
This will go the same way as jobs and other societal issues we have. We have a generation of young people who expect the schools to take care of their kids, they teach them, feed them (even on the weekends) while they spend their money on who knows what. And if they don't make enough money, we just give people more. The whole Covid thing will damage this country more than we'll ever know. We have millions of people who won't work because they just wait for government handouts.

For those following, Ohio punted the sports gambling issue till the spring.

And it was the Supreme Court who paved the way and like I've said in the past, anyone who wants to gamble is already doing it. I personally would like them to use some of the money to get rid of pay for play, band or whatever extra costs parents pay in order for their kids to participate. I'm not sure how to do this fairly but I strongly believe having kids involved in things shouldn't be limited by costs at the school level. If a family wants to spend $5k for some select team, that's their option. But every kid should at least be given a shot without financial burdens

The lottery and casinos were supposed to solve all of these issues so do not hold your breath.

I’m hoping between lottery, casinos, sports gambling and the eventual recreational marijuana tax it will be enough to solve all those issues (and some infrastructure). But I know I’m setting myself up for disappointment.
The numbers don’t lie about the amount of tax dollars these places bring in. It’s the politicians who’ve messed up where it’s spent.
