Leagues for Mogadore

Now that the Portage Trail Conference ( formerly Portage County league) is defunct, what are league possibilities for Mogadore. This coming school year they'll be an independent. Have apparently been turned down by various local and non-local leagues. Wonder what will happen.

I think the CVC would be the best option. Mogadore might be a bit far for some of the schools, but it shouldn't be so far that it eliminates them from being considered. If Rootstown got in, Mogadore should be able to get in as well. Put them in the division with Kirtland, Crestwood, Berskshire, Chagrin Falls.

If not a potential Option could be an expanded 12 team MAC maybe (just like the old PTC lol)? Mogadore would be punching above their weight, but something like

Big:

Cloverleaf
Cuyahoga Falls
Copley/Revere??
Kent Roosevelt
Tallamadge
Streetsboro

Smaller:

Norton
Ravenna
Mogadore Field
Mogadore
Springfield
Woodridge

This might not work at all, as Mogadore would be the smallest school by far, but I guess it could be an option if both sides were interested?

Have they tried to reach out to the MVAC? I'm surprised Rootstown didn't try to go there before the going to the CVC, if only for a year.

Mogadore's pay-to-play may help out in the long run. Not sure why so many schools didn't want them but if they are a little less competitive, it might make them more attractive to some local schools.

They did I believe approach the MVAC. I still think the MVAC should just realign and have a western side. Mogadore, Rootstown, Ravenna Southeast, Atwater Waterloo, Newton Falls, Jackson Milton, Berlin Center Western Reserve and Garrettsville Garfield.

Didn't those smaller Portage County teams run from Mogadore to start this whole conference merry-go-round?

I guess some did " run", but Crestwood voted to join new league with Mogadore. Unfortunately, Mogadore Field, and Atwater Waterloo voted no. Crestwood hosting Mogadore week 1. Hopefully those who are trying to get many old PCL schools reunited will be successful. It's sad some of these schools are traveling 1 plus hours to play schools that most local fans have little interest in playing. And many of these same schools have financial issues. Smaller gate receipts too. I'd rather see Mogadore play Mogadore Field (3-4 miles separated) than Mogadore playing Cleveland city teams or Mogadore Field playing Canton South!

North Coast

Mogadore had some serious financial issues. Joining a large league with considerable travel probably wouldn't set well with the voters.
I don't really think that matters all that much, because there isn't a league willing to take them at the moment, so they're stuck with considerable travel no matter what they do. They're hoping the MVAC goes to 18 or has someone drop out.

Mvac will need a team when the trumbull county schools kick Crestview out. They have already had backdoor meetings to plan it.
Good fit for mogadore

There is a meeting next week>Trumbull County own league with Cardinal and Grand Valley, Southeast would not be in the mix.

1st the CVC is not an option as coaches are already complaining about the extra travel time to rootstown...also, mogadore has no soccer program. That's a huge deal in the CVC...
2nd the MAC is not an option either especially in football. All the schools are bigger and mogadore offers nothing in return as far as playoff points. It only benefits mogadore to be in the MAC as they can literally go 2-8 or 3-7 and make the playoffs due to the Harbin points off the bigger schools.

Actually vs MAC teams, Mogadore holds series leads over majority. Springfield had a slight lead but most of their wins were when they were much larger. Mogadore had a series and won probably 5 straight until Springfield canceled. Mogadore holds substantial winning percentages over, Mogadore Field, Woodridge, Streetsboro, Norton and Coventry and is 1-1 vs Ravenna who they just played recently. Never played Cloverleaf. So your point might be accurate about playoff points, but historically Mogadore has had success. Hopefully they can be accepted to a similar size league.

I think you proved this point Mogadore I would benefit way more being in a bigger league in the rest of the teams really wouldn't gain anything by beating them. Honestly I like being an independent because you control your own destiny in a way. People get upset at Massillon for having a crap ton of home games but when you're an independent school and teams want to come play you that puts more money into your football program. But you also don't have to worry about being in a league and worrying about getting harbin points if the league is down that year.

Agree to some point. But Mogadore non league games will bring no fans, bands. Maybe Akron Ellet which is located 2 miles away, but doubt that. Mogadore had 2x many fans at Ellet last year.

Need to create a new Portage County Conference. 8 teams of the same size in the same area.
Mogadore
Field
Rootstown
Crestwood
Southeast
Ravenna
Waterloo
Garfield

But Mogadore Field won't join, doubt Atwater Waterloo would as well.

But they took Akron Coventry didn't they
I want to say that is more or less a geographic fit and also a historic fit since Coventry is a founding member of the PAC... At least that is my thought process for the addition...

Mogadore to Ft Recovery is a 3hr 30 min drive... that's like Cal being in the ACC, oh wait. Have the MAC add Mogadore and Field, then its like Cal and Stanford in the ACC.

Like college, I wonder if high school conferences would ever go away from geographic areas being a priority.

I think in high school athletics geography and travel will always be the top priority for conferences, even at the expense of competitive fit.
