JV Lax

Congrats to the Warriors!

Goal tending was excellent on both sides.

MHS won the game because the middies controlled the field, didn't allow X def to clear the ball and X never got a fast break.

In looking at the game, St X coaches took #25 out of the game along with the red hot goalie Grombala. This was the turning point of the game. #25 on Attack (McCormack) was the only kid that was creating offense for St. X. When he went out St. X did not score again. Ben Grombala was on fire in goal, taking him out was what shifted the tide away from St. X who had momentum because Mariemont out shot St. X heavily but could not put it bye Ben. Not many teams take out a hot goalie. Perhaps it was pre-set to do so regardless of first half play by the starter? Many fans commented on this and appreciated these moves. St. X showed class in the tourney too.

McCormack and Rob Strife should be valuable additions to the varsity attack next year, with Kamp, Stanislaw, Glaser and Krehnbrink graduating.

Ben Grombala probably takes over in varsity goal as well. Needs to get better at clearing the ball. He's no Paul Collura in that dept., but then, who is.

Grombala will start and will be VERY good as a varsity keeper. Strife appears to be not willing to pass the ball. McCormack creates offense and is impressive as a freshman, similar to Buczek. Buczek, McCormack and Strife will be a force for the Bombers. Grombala in goal and Poplis at defense make or good building blocks.

The cupboard's not bare at defense either, for sure, with Poplis and Imholt returning. Marcus Mitchell has seen a lot of time this year, he's a big lad. Another fellow who has benefited from a year practicing and playing with the varsity is sophomore Paul Rutemiller. Lots of upside potential with him, good stick.

Coming up from JV, Sean Duggan for sure (he's a beast), Ben Greiwe, Carman, Nash, Hill... probably Mike Kessler at LSM to back Kuechley... it will be a spirited competition to make varsity next spring on defense, and competition is a good thing.

As a measure of the strength of the Terrace Park/Mariemont youth program: On the St. X. JV ----McCormack and Conner Carmen (BIG defenseman) learned their game alongside the boys who took the tournament on Sunday. When you factor in Poplis and a couple of boys at CCD--Terrace Park/Mariemont has a pretty impressive system. Steve Peterson deserves a lot of credit.

25 was in for most of the game. He moves great and didn't get a break as he had some shots hit the post. But Mariemont did score two goals on Grombala and X only scored 2 the entire game on Mariemont's goalie. The warriors D, both the middies and the long sticks was very strong. WHEN was the last this year that X only scored 2 goals. All in all it ws a great game. Two very fine JV programs.

hill will not make varisty for x neither will nash
duggan, motz, griewe and maybe carman if he gets less penalties
torchia, logeman, reilly, arling will make varisty. maybe nelson or sabert?
strife, mccoemick, hill on varsity
grombala in goal

grombala maybe a good goalie, but he's nothin compared to IH's sophomore, aj froehlich

I know Froehlich didn't much around him but he got 11 put up on him by St. X, and 14 by Mariemont. Secondly while AJ is a sophmore, Ben is Freshman and has proven much more to me at least. I will say AJ can throw the ball the length and can clear like no other. With a better line up around him he would be a great goalie just like Grombala.

i agree with the statement about forehlich and would like to rephrase my previous post. AJ is a great goalie but when his defense is practically non-existent, there's only so much he can do, for example the meriemont game and st.x. If you look at his sophomore year compared to his freshmen year, it would appear he was better as a freshmen becuase he had a defense consisting of two players who are now starting varsity.

it is also evident of froehlichs potential based on his freshmen season; specifically IH's defeat of st.x in the JV tournament. AJ only let up three goals, leading IH to victory

None of St. X's starting defenders were on the JV last year.

i said that two of indian hill's starting defense played last year. i never said anything about X's defense, read before you post stupid comments.
