JV Lax

Bright Future!

In D1, St X and Moeller are both having great JV seasons. X has only lost once and Moe JV has only lost to Kilbourne and UA JV teams so far.

Sycamore and Mason also having decent seasons but not quite at the level of Moe and X based on head to head and strength of schedules. St X JV blanked the Aves 5-0 and I think they also lost to Fairfield in a surprising upset.

Some key Cinci matchups yet to come as Moe plays Sycamore tonight and Moe/St X matchup is next week.

Several of the JV squads have held their own vs. Columbus teams which is encouraging for the future- Moe and StX won vs. TW and Scioto, X also beat Kilbourne at JV level, and Sycamore stayed within 1 of Jerome.

St X JV has not lost a game this year. They have beaten 3 Columbus teams: Thomas Worthington, Dublin Jerome & Wothrington Kilbourne. They play UA today so it will be their best test this season.

St X vs. Moe next week.
If you get a chance to watch St. X JV play, check out their goalie, Ben Grombala. He's only a freshman but he is probably already the best shot-stopper in the entire Bomber program. He just needs to work on his clears and he'll be starting the next three years for varsity, I am sure. This young man makes some spectacular saves. Go watch the video of the St. X-Dublin Scioto JV game and you will see what I'm talking about:

The Fairfield Game on the schedule is one of their development teams. one of the DV teams to Fairfield. Also they beat Dublin Scioto not Jerome.

Tourney Seeds came out this weekend:
1. St. X
2. Mariemont
3. Sycamore
4. IH
5. Loveland
6. Lakota West
7. Turpin
8. Anderson

Moeller should have been in this tourney as one of the best JV teams in the City, and how this got missed is a big surprise. Moeller instead of Anderson in the higher division would have made a bunch of sense, and probably #1 or #2 seed in fact. This would have made the tourney more legit.

Does anybody know why Mason isn't in this? I don't know that they've played everyone on this list but I know they lost 3 to 2 to Sycamore and beat Anderson and Lakota West. I also can't believe Moeller isn't in this, they are real good.

at the start of the year, Mariemont played w. X twice and beat Moeller...to my knowledge they have blown the rest of their opponents out....look out for these guys to continue Mariemont varsity success next season

Mariemont lost to Moeller and lost twice (though they were close games) to X. The rest of the games weren't close it looks like. Why is Mariemont JV so strong?

hehateme, your thinking of the preseason, that is when Mariemont beat Moeller. Mariemont has always had a good JV, going back like that last 7 or 8 years.

Mariemont JV success

I would guess that Mariemont's JV success year in and year out is due to their strong youth program and overall development of lacrosse. Where many programs are just getting kids into the sport at JV level, Mariemont (and others) have a pool of kids with decent stick skills and fundamentals from good youth coaching. Same can probably be said of Moe and X who have youth/ development programs.

Once they get to varsity level, some of the "skills" even out and athleticism, size and conditioning start to take over giving the bigger schools with larger athlete pool an edge. That said, Mariemont does very well in D2 at varsity level- just can't compete with the some of the bigger programs in D1 consistently.

Jv Tounrament

ST.X sent an email to the wrong email adress to moeller regarding our participation in the tournament. We thought we had a spot in the tournament, we even had it on our schedule since day 1. Although, since we didnt reply because WE NEVER GOT THE EMAIL, moeller JV isn't in the tourny. I think thats bs. Im not blaming this all on X, moeller could have contacted X few weeks prior just to make sure we were still in the tourny. But still shouldn't X find it hard to believe that moeller hasn't responded to the Jv tourny, they could have found some way to contact us and put us in. i mean come on X and Moeller are one of the biggest rivals in Cincy. but i did hear there is a slight chance moeller may be able to get in, ill keep you updated.

Last year Mason did not show up for the tourny and they were invited.

Don't know the story behind Moe not playing, should make their match up on Wednesday even more intense.

JV tourney seeds are out:

1. St. X
2. Moeller
3. Mariemont
4 Sycamore

St. X has to get bye Mason and Sycamore to make it to the final vs. the winner from the other bracket. Moellers entry into the tourney and Mason's make the tourney much more legitimate because both teams are strong JV teams. Top 4 seeds have dominated their opponents except when playing each other. Mason has the ability to open some eyes if they knock off the #1 coming out of their bracket; however would have to do that right after playing their play in game which will not be a sure win. Very exciting tourney shaping up. Last year's win by IH (with 15 players) over the mighty St. X surprised everyone, so anything can happen.

St. X defeated Mason, Sycamore defeated Lakota West, Mariemont defeated IH, and Moeller defeated Colerain. Colerain brought their Varsity and beat Anderson.

Semi Finals:
St. X vs. Sycamore
Moeller vs. Mariemont

Final Game 4pm tomorrow. This is any body's tourney based on the way the teams are matched up and playing. No team will have an easy path to the championship because they must play two tough games in one day.

St. X and Moeller also feed off of Mariemont's strong youth program. off the top of my head, Mackey at Moeller (JV), Carmen (JV) and Popolis at X

Don't forget john salinger, their all american last year who also lives in Mariemont and went through "the program".
