Ironton Vs. Marion Local In Week 1...Not So Fast

So? That win is also against an opponent most years is 2 1/2 times the enrollment. And guess what else, a 35 minute drive.

Well, the way some people look at it, is if you want to compare yourselves to upper division champs, then add an upper division power. Or stay in your lane. I agree there is no other reason to do it except to further challenge yourselves, which we all agree is your choice.

To wit: Indian Valley went 16-0 and won the D4 title. ML did not beat IV, nor beat anyone who beat IV, so I don't think it is good form to say "we coulda beat them." That rubs people the wrong way.

Exactly! Plus, revenue from home games help fund travel for playoffs and other games that don't generate as much in ticket sales. Makes no sense to ink 1 year deal with a team 4 hours away that most likely won't bring as big of a following as a school closer.
Have you seen the social media following for this game? Do you realize how monster of a crowd this would be?

But why does it rub people the wrong way? I don't get it. Why is it so necessary for ML to stay in their lane?

Also, if Marian local doesn’t play this game, then I never, ever want to hear ANYONE on this site or twitter claim they would win multiple divisions when they are obviously not confident enough to actually play one of those teams they say they would handily beat.
What does posters posting on yappi have anything to do with ML confidence or lack of when it comes to scheduling answer nothing.

Tough talk from a fan of a program that can't beat Kirtland or Versailles for that matter.

Good for you tough guy! Now go make that very same point to all the people who are actually saying that crap for all of us at ML who are not. Thanks in advance for helping out.

Projecting you could win a hypothetical matchup just isn't some super disrespectful premise

Did I use “super disrespectful premise”? Saying you could beat a state champ without some compelling evidence isn’t something I would do. Few would barring something like head to head or a common opponent.

So why is it not the same the other way around?

I mean that's how it comes across when you andnl others continue to harp on it. Kirtland and IV play week 1. When that game is close we can revisit this if necessary lol

So you agree with them that ML would have beat Ginn Academy this year because Kirtland beat Perry, Perry nearly beat Ginn, Coldwater beat Kirtland, and ML beat Coldwater? Because that's what's going on here, the 7 degree's of Coldwater. Beating Coldwater every year doesn't mean you can beat teams you've never played.

Just say that ML will beat Ginn, and I'll stop harping at the D7 King. lol

My suggestion for you is to not pay attention to this site or Twitter if your attempting to avoid coming across fans of MAC football who believe this Marion Local team may well have won a state title quite a few divisions above their ranking.

Your take on what it means if Marion doesn't play a specific team has no more weight than my take on how bad they would have pounded teams that won D5, D4 or D3 titles.

The fact is, neither of us will truly know the outcome of games that will never be played. And scheduling team A, B or C for them to play in the future proves nothing as well, as it would be between two completely different teams who just so happen to wear the same uniforms that this years team wore.

The most accurate "proof" I have found for who would win these contest that will never be played is to look at the non biased computer power rankings. I'm comfortable with that. You don't like it because that dang computer places them way too high. That's fine, but it does not change the fact it is still the best predictor. You can decide how likely you believe the computer is wrong, and I will decide how likely I believe it is right, and we will just have to live with the fact we will never really know.

7 degrees of Coldwater made me LOL. I personally hate transitive property but that seems to be the name of the game in this thread.

IMO my eyes told me the 4 best small school teams were IV, Ironton, MSML/Perkins as 3a/B and there isn't a huge difference between any of em. I personally would take IV and Ironton in very close games but it's not unreasonable to see it go the other way. Perkins was gone lose to whoever no matter what because they're idiots lol

Computer points??? Hmmm, nah. I have been on the forum a long time and usually these kind of debates occur when a state champ beats another state champ from a division or 2 above it, and/or beats a team along the way that beat that state champ. ML can justifiably say they are the best team in D6 or D7. D5 belongs to Ironton but you could make an argument. D4 or D3 is way too big a reach esp. having not played any D4 or D3 powers let alone that playoff path. That said there is nothing wrong w/ having an opinion - or being challenged on it.

Did you read? Ironton proposed to go to Marian local for a one year game. Marian local wouldn’t have to step foot on a bus.
You won a state championship! Enjoy the moment in time your community has been blessed with. ML in not obligated to play anyone because of an "offer made" or "put up or shut up" challenge. We have never operated that way and won't. You can rant and rave on social media all you want but will accomplish nothing more than make fools of yourselves. ML will do what is in our best interest plain and simple. And again congratulations on your championship and accomplishments this season.

This whole hidden villain thing with ML is crazy. Accusations of recruiting because we're an open enrollment school, but then we suppress people coming into the district to keep ourselves in D7. It just makes zero sense. People just want to complain at this point as to why their schools can't match it. Like someone said above. No one was chomping at the bit to play the 2024 Flyers hence our 4.5 hour trip into Indiana. Now everyone wants a piece of us and says if you don't sign your John Hancock on a 1 year contract that means you're scared.

I’m just tired of MAC disrespect and people within their community, on here, on twitter saying they would handle and beat us, then not want to play. Just seems arrogant and now that someone has actually challenged them they just seem scared.

Ok funny tough guy. Tell Marian Local and the whole MAC to stop disrespecting us and other higher division teams by saying they’d beat us when they are too scared to play us.
Once again, tough talk for a guy who follows a program that can't beat Kirtland or Versailles for that matter. No one's scared of Ironton
