After suffering a program crushing loss to Girard in week 8 (49-14) Hubbard could have thrown in the towel. They could have lost at home to Niles, they could have let South Range blow them off the field 60-0. Instead it was a wake up call.
Following the loss, Hubbard flipped the entire playbook. This led to a comfortable win vs Niles, holding Gardner to negative rushing yards. Against SR Hubbard played with pride losing 28-0. Hubbard had chances to score inside the 10 yard line in this game, to tie early and cut it to one score in the third quarter.
I know this isn't a great year for Hubbard football. My point is Hubbard hasn't given up like we thought they would. The staff made the necessary changes and the kids are playing for something. Hubbard still has holes in the secondary. The Eagles kept South Range in check for the most part on the ground, but got torched in the air. As for this game.
Girard is the obvious favorite coming in, once again. Even with the injuries. I expect Sims will start at QB for Girard. In the week 8 game, Sims had one of the best first halves that I've ever seen a player have. Hubbard has to limit him if they want to have a chance here. I think we see a much better effort from Hubbard this time around. The power spread is working, much better than the Wing T ever did. Against SR Hubbard took their best linemen off the line and put him at fullback as a lead blocker. It was effective as Hubbard moved the ball, they just couldn't finish drives against a great defense. I hope they stick with it this week.
Looking forward to hopefully an exciting game.
