To be perfectly honest I don't think LaRussa would have had half the career he did without Dave Duncan. Not to mention the best player in the game for some 8 years or so. I think he's way overrated.

Bryon Scott.

On a serious note, does anyone else think LaRussa is overrated? It's not just that I hate him and the Cardinals, I think it has merit. Some of his in-game decisions were just mind boggling IMO.
If they do fail to live up to expectations, is that it for Dusty? I kinda think he'll be on a shorter leash after last season. Thoughts?

I want to know what has Dusty done that is so bad? He's the best manager they've had since Jack Mckeon or even Davey Johnson. Who do you all want that they can afford? He's brought consistency and continuity to the team. Two years ago no one thought the Reds would win the Central. I think we should watch what we ask for. We can always bring Bob Boone back (Adam Dunn leadoff) or Jim Narron.
Could you name any of Phil Jacksons assistants (maybe you can  I really don't know)?

Did he really do that? If so, wow
If they don't win a playoff series, then yes, he should be gone

La Russa could possibly go down in history as one of the top 10 managers of all time. His unconventional style of managing made him the manager he was. He was not afraid to manage "out-the-box" and was succesful. He won everywhere he managed.

I have never understood this reasoning in any sport but baseball in particular. A manager's influence can be felt over the long haul but you really can't read anything into a short series against another playoff team
With all the talent he had specifically in Oakland he should of won a helluva lot more. Definitely overrated in my book.
Every coach, manger, player etc. in any sport should always be judged on how they play in the Playoffs. To think otherwise would be ridiculous IMO. That'd be great if the Reds won 105 games this year and had the best record in baseball, but if they fail to advance in the playoffs it would make the entire season a failure. I definitely don't want to be swept out of the first round again by the Phillies, and I don't know how anyone could be satisfied with that if it happens again this year. That feeling sucks.
