How fast are serves?

I'm somewhat new to tennis, how fast is the average serve in high school?
I want to try out this year but I'm not sure if my serve is fast enough

Don't worry so much about speed. Remember that spin and placement are equally if not more important. And also remember that you're only as good as your second serve! A few good lessons can work wonders. Don't get trapped into the candy serve! After a few lessons, remember that while practicing it's better to miss long than in the net.

Good luck!

Oh, and the average speed is probably about 75mph tops.

Your Joking right?

If you play any halfway decent players serves hoover around 110 [1st serves.]

Serve

I'm not joking. It depends on who you're talking about, of course. Most CHL players, for example, may hit an occasional first serve in at 110 but not consistently. IH first team players certainly do--and probably more. But the "average" player doesn't get a big first serve in.

And until you get a speed gun, don't overestimate your "macho" first serve.

Get a great second serve reliably in and then you can go for broke on the first.
