Hoover softball

Great day today - beat Fairless 7-1 and Wooster 9-0. Three games in now 3-0 and outscored their opponents 26-1. All while starting 3 freshman and 3 sophomores.

Forget the FL title. I'm thinking Regional and perhaps State titles. Vikes sure are looking quite dominant so far.

Could this be THREE state titles in the making for the Fed this year?

How nice would that be? I wouldn't mind the FED making a habit of this!:)

How true. I have no problem sharing the love (and celebrations) w/fellow league members!! This league is freaking awesome when it comes to softball. Much like both boys & girls basketball this year.

Boardman and Perry will certainly have something to say about who takes the FL softball crown and likely districts / regionals.

Early FL showdown tomorrow -- Hoover at Perry.

FL softball is looking strong again this year.

LOL...you know, I actually had that in my post before I re-edited it - that Boardman & Perry would step up if Hoover faltered at all. I just wish Jackson was part of the top mix this year, but all indications are that we won't be.

Hoover at Perry. Should be a good game.

I hope we face Hall tomorrow instead of the new pitcher Rusoo. We hit Hall hard last year.

I'd rather go against the tougher of the two, right now. Better to see it now & adjust to it down the road, than in the districts and not have a second chance.

No difference.

Hall is 2-0 and allowed 1 run in 13 innings.

Russo is 1-0 and allowed 1 hit in 7 innings.

DWV,

Way to take one game against possibly the best team in the league (if not they're right there) and use it to try and make a lame point. It seems to me from watching both kids throw that Hoover has TWO high caliber pitchers. That should be a good thing, not bad.

What was the score of the Perry / Hoover game and who pitched for each team?

perry won 4-1. cassie pitched the whole game for us and hall pitched 4 or 5 innings for them but they had to take her out becuz we were really hitting her hard, just like last year! she sometimes tips her changups so that helped. they scored when macaronio hit a hr but that was it for them.

PP, for the second time, Hoover hit Rohr hard too at times. Perry's team made plays and Hoover had errors. THAT was the difference in the game. Championship teams make plays when it matters. Perry did that better that night.

Hall is 4-1 and has allowed 9 runs on 21 hits in 31 innings with 3 complete games.

Russo is 2-0 and has allowed 0 runs on 4 hit in 15 innings with 1 complete game.

Hoover is getting great pitching so far this season. Keep it up girls. :)

Crazy how much different things are in one year...

Strike One - Lost a real pitcher.

Strike Two - Lost a real coach.

Strike Three - Must have lost their glasses because they were swinging and missing badly all game long.

Way to rip on a team of mostly freshmen guys.. real classy. Everyone knew they'd be down this year... when you graduate the number of seniors and scholarship-level players that they did, ANY team would be down.

All I said was the score and how it's crazy how much can change in a year. Is that putting someone down?

To respond to your point though, I'd have to disagree. In 2009 Hoover was coming off a season losing Jess Simpson and 7 seniors and a state championship. They still won 20 games and lost I believe 2-1 to jackson in the district finals. This year they start 3 freshman and 3 sophomores, along with 2 juniors and Alex Marcantonio. Your argument of being young doesn't hold weight at a school like Hoover, who over the last decade or so has been the top program in the state.

The bottom line with Hoover year in and year out is their pitching and Coach Goodpasture is one of the best around. I had the pleasure of two winters of pitching lessons and came away impressed by both the teaching approach and the man himself. It also helps when the kids play travel ball and get the reps that make a difference.

Alex Marcantonio

Possible player of the year in Federal League? Beast of a player. I extremely dislike calling pitches against her. Seeing her on the field, seems like a class act as well.

It'll be either her, the Boardman pitcher, or a Perry player (Ferrell?) depending on how the league plays out. Any of the above would be deserving imho.

No offense intended but (IMO) while a very solid player, Ferrell is not even the best player on her team, or the best at her position in the league. Soph 2B Saibene is hands down tops on Perry.

We'll have to see how Boardman's pitcher does when she comes back from her injury but, from what I heard, she did not face Hoover last night. No idea what the time table is for her return. Perhaps one of the Boardman faithful has that answer?

For that matter... I would also include C. Rohr in the list of possibilites.
