It is impressive to see how proactive the GCC is with membership. The GCC is now accepting applications for possible league expansion beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. The league is currently accepting applications for full membership, but may also consider schools interested in joining in the sport of football only.
Football only? I doubt they get Ed’s or Iggy to join as football only. This might be a WILD guess, but maybe Glenville as a football only member? I know they are “in” the Senate League and a D4, but they could 100% compete with the GCC and I don’t think CMSD would have much issue if this was a football only move. That’s only if they don’t get Riverside or someone else as an 8th full time memberThe GCC is now accepting applications for possible league expansion beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. Not too familiar with the CMSD teams. In SW Ohio quite a few city schools play at neutral sites, is that Glenvilles case too?Yeah good luck getting home and home arrangements with Glenville in your proposed solution
Glenville plays home games on Friday at 3:00 PM and plays away games against any marquee opponents. Doubt any GCC schools are lining up for that opportunityNot too familiar with the CMSD teams. In SW Ohio quite a few city schools play at neutral sites, is that Glenvilles case too?
If it’s because schools wouldn’t want to travel to Glenville to play, they could always try a neutral site. Maybe Case Western would let Glenville use their field for home games? Who knows, that could get complicated, it probably won’t happen anyways.
Yeah that would be less than ideal. Would have to get creative to make it work, but it’s not likely. Thanks for the info!Glenville plays home games on Friday at 3:00 PM and plays away games against any marquee opponents. Doubt any GCC schools are lining up for that opportunity
My best guess is the league wants that 8th spot filled ASAP, schools are tired of having an open week later in the season most likely, especially when it results in long tripsIt is impressive to see how proactive the GCC is with membership.
Where are you located? Doesn't seem like you know a lot about NEO makeups and leagues and suchMy best guess is the league wants that 8th spot filled ASAP, schools are tired of having an open week later in the season most likely, especially when it results in long trips
I moved to Cleveland 1.5 years ago from SW Ohio, and I don’t know alot about the NEO Conferences. That’s why I follow these threads to learn about them more.Where are you located? Doesn't seem like you know a lot about NEO makeups and leagues and such
None of the GCC schools besides Mentor ever schedule Ignatius or Eds unless it's a one off to fill a spot. And yeah Glenville away games aren't happening. They aren't an option
Never made sense for an 8 team league to go to 10. Strongsville would be a replacement candidate if anyone leavesSo wait , is the Strongsville and Brunswick moving to SWC for sure not happening ?
Riverside? That would be a close opponent for Mentor. The Mentor drive to and from Medina, Brunswick and Strongsville is tiresome. Adding a Lake County school that's even further makes little sense.Never made sense for an 8 team league to go to 10. Strongsville would be a replacement candidate if anyone leaves
Think Riverside coming in as #8 makes sense now
It’s better to have 8 then be stuck at 7 again.. but I have to agree that Strongsville and Brunswick are not going to like the drive. And with the GCC being a revolving door of teams these last few years, if I was them I’d start planning on Strongsville and Brunswicks eventual departure.Riverside? More reason to add Riverside if they are going to leave whenever they can anywaysIt’s better to have 8 then be stuck at 7 again.. but I have to agree that Strongsville and Brunswick are not going to like the drive. Well I agree that Riverside is a great addition. Even if they don’t add Riverside both of them are probably looking elsewhere anyways.More reason to add Riverside if they are going to leave whenever they can anyways
I do like how everyone thinks it's perfectly fine to leave Mentor on an island. Can't possibly add a school close to them or anything if one is finally available ...
And Brunswick and Strongsville have nowhere to go right now. So until they do, it will be what it will be
Saturday 1pm games. Shaker did it for years…Yeah that would be less than ideal. Would have to get creative to make it work, but it’s not likely. Thanks for the info!
Making the GCC an east side conference (minus Lorain) I think will be the best move. However, Chardon would probably be best as a football only member (IF Brunswick and Sville leave), they probably don't want to play a GCC schedule in all sports as someone mentioned in another thread, but I'm sure they'd be more than happy to in football.Riverside is a good fit. But those parents will hate the drive. lol. I have heard from several that with the growth in the elementary schools they may be a DI again soon.
I feel for Chardon , where do they land ? The CVC won’t take them , Hell the way Hewitt talks half the time about how tough Chardon is , maybe they join the GCC. Make it official and take on all comers!![]()
IF this is the way it goes, which I do not foresee happening, I like the odds that Lorain gets dropped and Fitch and Boardman join as football only. Would be a tiny conference for all other sports but football rules all in most ADs eyesMaking the GCC an east side conference (minus Lorain) I think will be the best move. Mentor
Cle Heights
Shaker
Euclid
Riverside
Lorain
Chardon (football only)
?? (other football only school?)
Pretty competitive football conference.
Not a bad idea. Would be beneficial as a league for lacrosse as well.IF this is the way it goes, which I do not foresee happening, I like the odds that Lorain gets dropped and Fitch and Boardman join as football only. Mentor is closer to both Heights and Shaker then Brunswick. It takes at least 45 minutes to an hour to get to Euclid, Heights and Shaker on Friday night and I have to drive through downtown during evening rush hour. Let's be real, Mentor has 3 schools closer to Brunswick's 1 before adding Riverside. I understand adding Lorain and Riverside to get back to 8, but all that's doing is driving Brunswick and Strongsville to look for better options like Elyria and Medina did. The GCC was always supposed to be set up into 2 divisions an eastside and westside but that never happened. The closest school to Mentor right now is Euclid. If anything it's more fair to have another our way for once

With the SWC, SL and Cleveland West Conference all existing, a west side GCC division seems/seemed pretty hard to pull off unfortunately, but maybe if Berea had joined when Elyria and Medina were still in the GCC, then it could’ve worked?Mentor is closer to both Heights and Shaker then Brunswick. There weren't other options.... The 7 leftover from the GCC were the big schools. Euclid and Cleveland Hts went for the 8th spot. Yes I know, I was getting at making a division of Elyria, Berea, Lorain, Medina, Strongsville and Brunswick as your ‘GCC West’ IF you had got everyone to stay who has already left. But that obviously wasn’t going to happen for a multitude of reasons, a 2 division GCC based on geography just wasn’t in the cards unfortunately. The 8 team model has seemed to be the only viable option for the League, and will be going forwardThere weren't other options.... The 7 leftover from the GCC were the big schools. Elyria left. Heights was brought in. Solon left and now the school applying if anything is Riverside. They could be D1 again soon and are a fit. It's not like Riverside would be chosen over 5 westside schools or something …
Mentor ALREADY has a neighbor school in Euclid. There is not a big traveling time difference between Mentor/Euclid and Brunswick/Strongsville.Mentor is like 5-7 minutes closer to shaker and heights compared to Strongsville. It isn't some huge difference
Euclid is more of a point. But the difference to Euclid is less than Mentors difference to Lorain ...and you obviously had Medina for years too
But Mentor doesn't have a neighbor school like Strongsville and Brunswick. Euclid is about 20 minutes away
Strongsville and Brunswick applied for conferences like the suburban and swc before Medina left. Heck before Elyria left they were looking. So spare me on them having more motivation to look based on who is added. They've been looking. They aren't loyal and shifting all of a sudden
The GCC was never going to be Eastside and Westside divisions. It was always big schools who were left after the NOC broke up and filling in around them
Good thing it doesn't matter what you think.Mentor ALREADY has a neighbor school in Euclid. There is not a big traveling time difference between Mentor/Euclid and Brunswick/Strongsville.
Lorain is a mute point. Both Brunswick and Mentor are both over an hour away
I took the average times per Google maps to arrive at 6:45pm on a Friday night. For the 2025 school year it will take Brunswick a total of 315 minutes (2 members at 20 minutes or less and 5 members at 50+ minutes) to get to every GCC member compared to 328.5 (3 members at less than 45 minutes and 4 members at 50+ minutes) for Mentor. Which is almost even traveling time for both. Then starting with 2026 school year (with Riverside as the 8th member) it will take Brunswick 360 minutes (1 member at less than 20 minutes and 6 members at 50+ minutes) compared to 283 minutes (2 members at less than 20 minutes, 2 member at less than 45 minutes and 3 members at 50+ minutes) for Mentor. So I'm against Riverside joining and staying at 7 members. Travel is what is killing this conference and why members keep leaving.
Really, it doesn't matter what either of us think. But, has of December 9th, 2024 Brunswick is still a member of this conference and gets a say in who can join and I can still urge them to vote no to Riverside.Good thing it doesn't matter what you think.
Strongsville and Brunswick are looking to leave anyways. So the conference would be smart to take on a good option if Riverside applies
Brunswick for many years across the noc and GCC had both Medina and Strongsville. So Mentor can have both Euclid and Riverside and you can deal
