Gilmer lights it up

WoodyHayes

homesick
For the Texas fans. If you ever want to see a small school light it up on the field, go watch the Gilmer Buckeyes. Last night they lit it up against Tatum. They have aprox 5 D-1 prospects. The running back is going to OU and he is a beast. Drug 4 guys 6 yards in to the endzone with his helmet off. Very entertaining. I had a guy from Ohio who played for Mckinley and he said this is big time football and I laughed and said, you should see the 5-A powers. He said he could not even imagine. Unfortunately he left today and I did not get to take him to a big time 5-A game.

we saw a 5a power last night get taken to the shed. This Texas belief that no team from another state can play with texas's best has been broken.

Well Woody has seen both TX and OH in person, and he appears to be objective.

I don't think anyone from TX thought that no other state's top teams could compete.

I wont say it

Sounds more like Woody's friend from Ohio is now biased toward Texas.
This guy called me the other day and asked "What was the name of that powerhouse we watched" I told him little old Gilmer, and they are playing for the big ring Saturday! He told some guys up in Canton, Ohio that this school would give the Bulldogs a game, probably beating them most years. They are pretty good. The "Bus" is a running back that is going to Oklahoma. I believe they have 4 big time (Texas, Oklahoma, A&M) recruits and probably more going D-1 mid major. They still may lose. They gotta knock off the defending champ Saturday. But this year they have already beaten 5 former state champions. I like this team. I consider them, unlike some other areas (Southlake etc) to be "real" Texas kids playing real Texas football.

Do you consider Highland Park to be "real Texas kids playing real Texas football"? In my mind they are cut out of the same cloth as SLC? Texas High has faced them 3 out of the last 5 years in the playoffs and hold a 2-1 advantage, but I consider them a "real Texas football team" and have all the respect in the world for HP as a team. I also respect what SLC has accomplished over the years. Every great team can have a bad day. Gilmer was the prohibited favorite over Liberty Eylau in 2006 and got beat and yes LE grabbed the ring. And yes Gilmer has an impressive program also. Coach Traylor has a number of D1 recruits over the last 4 or 5 years for a school it's size.

OK...but was the defense he faced tougher or not as tough as ST Xavier's?

He would not put up these kinds of stats on the X defense...

Pied: Can you put together some kind of stat adjustment worksheet?

If a back runs 7 times for 33 yards in one half against Arlington Lamar, what's that equal to against Long Beach Poly?

And what is 20-27-1 for 389 yards and three touchdowns against Wheaton-Warrenville South equal to against Englewood Cherry Creek?

Please do the board a great service.

Be real. not to many people, if any would put up those kind of numbers against X. Him and Fred Craig colliding probably causes an earthquake. This is just 3-A ball but very entertaining.

Not Really

The kids from Tex-Arkana are "real" Texas boys (I umped em in baseball and 14 and 15 year olds already over 6 foot). Coach (Texas High) can be a little difficult though(officials hate him). LE was probably going to beat Gilmer again untill a couple of 4th quarter injuries thwarted them (RB and QB) Any time any one faces HP i root against HP. Coach is a jerk for running up the score on Marshall a few years back. Up by 35 and still throwing. JERK!

A little off topic but for the out of state people. Highland Park makes Southlake look average in terms of money.

Professional athletes and CEO's live in Southlake and the team owners, like Jerry Jones, live in Highland Park.
Those Highland Park kids are mega rich - multimillion dollar homes.

I guess Woody has a thing against rich white kids.

Buckeyes Got Killed

No excuses. They got beat in every facet. Butt Whuppin. I am watching Miami NorthWestern right now and they would beat SLC again (with or without Dodge)
