General NFL Chat

True, but they were 10-1 at one point.

This was an epic meltdown.
Yes, I was stunned by how that team fell apart. Would not be stunned if that coaching job comes open in the next few days. I asked my iPhone "Hey Sirianni will you get fired?" My phone did not understand the question.

Ditto for the Cowboys. I figured Jerry might run down to the field and fire McCarthy post-game before he got back to the locker room.

This has to be one of the strangest NFL seasons in a while. Have we seen a team like Philadelphia fall flat like they did and without losing a quarterback or significant player? They just suddenly got bad. Buffalo went from in, then out, then in again. The Browns were in the top tier of the AFC for a time this year. Jacksonville was everyone's pick to step up and become elite. Baltimore, Detroit, San Fran has kind of been the most consistent teams this season.

NFL needs to move the ball back to the 25 yard line for kickoffs. 22 guys jog onto the field, 5 seconds later the same 22 guys jog off the field as the ballboy retrieves the ball for the referee. TV Timeout.

And what's funny is when a guy decides to return the kick, 9 times out of 10 he is within a yard or two of the 25 yard line.

Nothing more than a ceremonial opening now.

Baltimore vs KC for AFC title. Two of the best defenses in the AFC, two good QB's, two good o - lines. Neither team has flashy prima donna receivers.
OBJ plays for Baltimore no? Also, Mahomes has shown enough of his whiny side this year, that team would be in real trouble with a diva WR as well.

Go to the XFL kickoff. That would eliminate some of the speed of the kickoff and would look more like a running play from scrimmage.

OBJ is not the player he used to be, and Ravens can win without him. Mahomes has proven great QB's don't great receivers to be great just a good TE.

I do not like the Ravens, but, I'm begging them to make this STOP!

AAAAAGH! Make it stop!!!

So tell me again why Garrett is going to be DPOY over T.J. Watt?

I'd like to see an aspiring reporter do a story on the paid out expiring contracts of all these coaches that get let go. It's like musical chairs now. I'm pretty sure that none of these coaches are on their last year, so there is at least a 1 year buy out. I bet we'd be shocked.

Texans showed that if you block Garrett the browns defense is bad. Stealers have better overall defense around Watt.

Watt is more versatile than Garrett. Garrett is very good, Watt is better.

Maybe the Bungaks can figure it out, they need to draft a OT since they have to face these two players 4 times a year.

I’d say going to a Super Bowl, AFCCG and then 9-8 with a healthy Burrow for just 6 or so games has it figured out. Perfect? No. Figured it out? Seems like it.

Need for OT is tbd. Jonah is good enough. Although I’d still like to see them draft one of one of their guys is available.

148 sacks in 52 regular season games. Is the team results/trend upward or downward over the last 3 years: SB, AFC runner up, 9-8?

Burrow isn’t good, he’s great but only if the Bengal organization can figure out how to keep him upright.

Here is an example of a bust:
* Jonah Williams “is good enough”
* 2019 draft: 1st rd, #11 overall
* 5 years & $30.2 million dollars later
* Per PFF, 60th rated OT in 2023

Here is an example of good enough:
* Dan Moore Jr
* 2021 draft: 4th rd, #128 overall
* 4 years & $4.1 mil
* Per PFF, 65th rated OT in 2023

When looking at the full context, which was provided to you in the post you quoted, I’d say they are on neither an upward or downward trend - they are level. A healthy Burrow for weeks 1-4 and 11-18 puts them right back to where they were the previous 2 years. You can’t just ignore an injury to the best player on the team at the most important position when asking a question like that.

Regarding Jonah, I frankly don’t care where he was drafted, how much he makes this year nor what his PFF grade gives him, it’s a useful tool but it isn’t the end all be all. He’s a good enough tackle for them to win a Super Bowl, that’s good enough for me.

The AFC is far tougher now than it was 2 years ago. If Burrow is healthy, as he was in the stretch wk 6-9 and beat Seattle, SF & Buffalo - the Bengals were as good as anyone in the league. Injuries (Burrow being the biggest), attrition and lack of depth did them in. The Bengals D is not the same as 3 years ago and starting next year they have the weight of Burrow’s contract hitting the team cap.

Your view in Williams - it’s a simple math problem. His productivity is not worth what he is paid nor the draft capital they used to acquire him. Williams play is closer to the LG Cordel Volson (4th rd pick) than the production of a top 10 pick such as Ja’Marr Chase. Yes the Bengals hit it out of the park in picking Burrow & Chase but you can not miss as poorly on a top 10 pick as they did with Williams.
