Jayna Ruhenkamp - sophomore - . Last season she hit .312 as a freshman and with a year of varsity experience to build on, we’ll look to see more good things this season. Last year she had 6 doubles and two homeruns.

Top players lost:
Kate Ruhenkamp - pitcher. Was the school record holder in career strikeouts and wins.

Carlie Goubeaux - played first base and was a key defensive player as well as a key hitter.

Jaden Rose - 2nd base - was a four year starter in our infield.

Alex Rose - 3rd base

Morgan Pleiman - Outfield

Carissa Meyer - Outfield

All of these players started and were important to our team's success last season. They will be tough to replcae.

New impact players:
Brooke Gehret
Ava Schafer
Julia Schmitmeyer
Payton DeMange
Kenleigh Eilerman
Keira Eilerman

All exhibited some strengths we like in the offseason opportunities. They will have the first chances to secure varsity spots. There are also a couple of sophomores that have progressed well and the incoming freshman class has some athletes who move well and have impressed our staff.

Final Comments:
Each season brings a new group of players and I always look forward to seeing how the pieces end up fitting into our puzzle. With a lot of turnover and with what will likely be a late start due to an extended basketball tournament run, we are going to have to figure some things out on the fly this season, especially in the early going. But I know we’ve got the players and the staff to make it work! We’ll be competitive because I think we’ll be able to score some runs and pitch and defend well enough. Our players have a great opportunity to rise up and step into some big roles and I look forward to seeing what this group of kids can do!

As for the league:
Russia won the league outright last year and they will have a very nice team again this season. They lost some key players to graduation, but they have some very nice pieces back, including their pitcher and they will be well-coached and prepared. Anna lost a couple of very important players, but they’ve got some good athletes back this year and will have good pitching. They are always a dangerous team. Houston battled us hard a couple of times last season and they will be solid because they have a solid pitcher and a solid catcher, which provides a good foundation. They’ve also got some younger players coming into the program that will have an immediate impact. Botkins made some huge strides last season and they are still on the rise as they’ve now experienced success and will want to have more of it. Jackson Center has been getting things going in the right direction over the last couple of years with some talented players who compete hard.

Russia, Anna, and Houston all have new coaches, which adds an interesting element to the league as well. All three of those coaches will bring a little something new to their programs and with the pitching in the league being pretty good all the way around, it will be a very interesting league race this season. Anybody will be able to play with and beat anybody on any given night!
