Former Lady Red star takes over Bellevue softball program

Bessie (Artino) Guy was living in Montana when she gave birth to her first child and started thinking about home.

Now she's back in her hometown of Bellevue and getting ready to make her debut as the Lady Red softball coach.

"I never thought we'd move back and never thought this opportunity would come up," said Guy, who recently was hired to succeed longtime coach Walt Snyder, who retired in October. "I was really humbled to get this opportunity and am excited about what the future holds.

"We're excited to continue the winning tradition at Bellevue and take the next step in the tournament and play in Akron (state finals site). We have the talent and the girls have the work ethic."

Bessie (Artino) Guy played collegiately at Allegheny and Heidelberg and has coached in high school and college.
