For Discussion

I posted in the Divsion 1 post on my thought on getting the best ones to the next meet. I said that first 2 advance (8 total) then the next 10 fastest times. 18 runners would advance to regionals/state. At regionals you would run 3 prelims (6 per race) winners advance and then next 5 best times go to finals. With the state back at Jesse Owens you would only need two prelims with 9 lanes and then top 2 advance (4 total) with the next 5 fastest also advancing to finals. Anyways enough of that I decided to do the individual races for the Austintown Regional (Austintown, North Canton, Painesville, and Nordonia Districts) I think I got it right, but if I missed one, I apologize in advance. Couple districts definitely battle the wind which affected the the times. Just using this for discussion.

Count me out on this plan. TImes are irrelevant in tactical events and too dependent on weather conditions/wind direction in shorter events.
Well I did mention weather was one bad thing about it, but tactical events just means you need to run the race for time now unless you are in the top 2. I have seen many posts saying that this runner would have made it if they were in this district. Well, this takes away these scenarios. Plus two extra runners are making it to the next round. Just trying to have a decent discussion while we wait for the prelims.

If you eliminate most of the competing aspect and rely on times there’s really no point in having a distinct meet. It’s not really a race anymore. Just use times from the season. Maybe field events would be OK because you and your competition aren’t performing side by side but a race should be a race. Not a time trial.
