Senior Payton Almond went 3-for-3 with an RBI and senior Katie Huth added two hits, an RBI and a run for Tallmadge (18-8). Senior Larissa Taylor pitched a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and two walks. "They knew that they had a job to get done and they knew that it was not going to be easy," Tallmadge first-year coach Meghan Haynes said of her players. "One thing this year that they have done well is they have tried to find one thing to do better the next time that they are up, whether it be energy, whether it be fundamentals skills, whether it be something within their at-bat, they are constantly trying to find a way to get better and be more competitive. It is exciting to watch. You can see the girls' passion." Tallmadge took a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Taryn Roberts scored on an error, Naomi Richardson scored on a passed ball and Marissa Charton hit a two-run triple to score Sophia Kroah and Kiera Staszak. Tallmadge added three runs in the seventh when Huth singled in Charton, Leila Staszak scored on an error and Almond doubled in Huth. The Blue Devils feature senior starters Taylor, Danielle Charton, Marissa Charton, Leila Staszak, Almond and Huth. "Their leadership this year has been absolutely incredible," Haynes said. "One of the first things that I did when I got the job was I sat down with my seniors and I asked, 'What is one thing that you want to do better this year?' They all had the same answer, and it was they wanted to be one big team." Taylor (14-3) has a 2.34 ERA, 91 strikeouts and 19 walks in 89⅔ innings.
