A's SP Bartolo Colon failed a drug test, out 50 games... He is having a career year and the A's are in playoff contention. Why do people still think they can do this stuff and get away with it???

He was coming back from a career threatening shoulder injury. These guys will do anything needed to stay in the money chase. It is all about the money.

i thought the 2nd offense was a 100 game suspension... could be wrong but thought i heard that on radio when melky was caught

Take this FWIW but just heard a rumor (for Tigers fans) that either Verlander or Prince Fielder tested positive for PED's. Skeptical whether anything comes of it but we'll have to wait & see....

I see no mention of that on twitter or anywhere else. I call BS.

It would be dumb on their (Verlander/Prince) part but it sounds like there have been 8 or 9 people on Twitter talking about this. The guy who called the Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon suspensions about 2 weeks ago is all over this.

If Verlander took PEDs that would be one of the dumbest decisions by a player ever.

In addition to suspensions, I think a positive test for PEDs should mean an automatic ban from the Hall of Fame. It'd give players like Verlander and Fielder (probably going to the HOF) a lot more to think about imo

Dodgers are going to tear up the NL if this trade goes through. Gonzalez, Kemp and Rameriz hitting 3-4-5 is scary, and just think how good they could be if Carl Crawford ever gets it together again and plays like he did in Tampa.

Agreed. What is the contract status of Victorino? Presumably he'd be the odd man out if Kemp, Ethier and Crawford were all healthy. That outfield plus AGon and Hanley on the corners is ridiculous.

Of course, all that said, they need another legit No. 2 or 3 starter to back up Kershaw and Billingsley ... not sure Beckett is the answer.

They've been in on every big name this year: Hanley, Victorino, Cliff Lee, Dempster, Blanton, the Boston guys. This is definitely turning into Yankees West.

Hopefully it just doesn't work out and none of the players mesh, or something. Otherwise I don't see the Reds taking them out in the playoffs.

Always have to root against the big spending teams

This is the last year of Victorino's three year contract.

I like Beckett as the #3 starter at best for LA. When he's healthy he still has good stuff. He can't be relied upon to be a #1 or #2 starter anymore but I believe he can be a serviceable third through fifth starter.

Anyone know why Strausburg never goes deep into games? I know he had a bad outing tonight but it seems he never pitches past the 6th inning. Does his pitch count always get high fast? 3.05 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.
