Elder this year

Actually he prob didn't...a lot of people outside of oak hills call your school that...and no elder isn't garbage they will prob b in the top five in state this year where as oak hills wont be anywhere near em

Well thats the first time I have ever heard it. Thats funny that people consider us a school thats bad at sports. Considering a few things. Oak Hills always has a winning football season, and many others sports we have that no one cares about (like bowling and chess) win state yearly. Volleyball always places in at least 2nd or third. Not to mention how academically excellent our school is. Not to mention that we are the largest school in the state of ohio. 3,200 if your curious. Elder will probably be good, I'll give that to you. And their is a reason why...First you recruit all your players. Offering them free tuition to play volleyball. Snaggging all the decent players that normally would play for GMC teams. And you cant deny that because two Oak Hills players Im friends with were offered that chance and turned it down cause many people in this city despise elder. And second GCL coaches break the off season rules. Coaching kids all year long and running open gyms before their time to run them legally. A certain period of time (idk what it is) Coaches are not aloud to Coach in any way or form their players. Elder fans might be a little bitter after the amazing football and basketball season they had this past year. Elder was 14-0 when they played Oak Hills, and lost by 15. Sorry Panthers.

Where to begin.
First, Chess is NOT a sport.
OH Vball does NOT place 2nd or 3rd in the state in volleyball every year, or any year for that matter.
Oak Hills does NOT win state in bowling and chess every year.
Oak Hills is NOT the largest high school in Ohio, Mentor is.
Elder does NOT offer free tuition for vball players.
GCL coaches do NOT cheat. Open gyms are allowed.

You ARE one of the dumbest posters on Yappi. That's saying something.

By the way, the non-contact period for coaches in volleyball is 10 days.

Chess is not a sport? Okay?
Check the last 5 years on gmc sports.com we do place top three
Mentor does not have more students, loon on oak hills' website
Elder does too

Oh and ps, thank you for the personal attack. Try to settle your self down next time before you post.

Joke Hills, Choke Hills, team that the GCL yearly kills

yEa honestly ries your one of the stupidest posters ever...thats pretty good...I play for GCL team and nope no one ever tried to recruit me or anyone else that i know playing on other GCL teams...and yea we have open gyms but not before the priod were allowed to...we don't start till awhile after that period begins....and 2nd or 3rd in what...your not any good happy...so stop trying to talk up your school cause everytime you do you just look dumb

o and since you said that GCl schools offer free tuition to all the decent players does that mean you suck since you didnt get an offer

Agreed, Chess is not a sport
I have been to the Volleyball Final Four for both boys and girls for the last 4 years. Oak Hills has not been there. You are wrong
Mentor has approximately 367 MORE students than Oak Hills in grades 10-12 (2702 vs. 2335).
This is the basis for divisional breakdown used by the OHSAA. Granted, Oak Hills jams all 3,000 or so students into one school, while Mentor chooses the research proven superior alternative of keeping the freshmen with the 7th & 8th graders in 3 junior high schools. For the OHSAA, all of those freshman are eligible student athletes for Mentor High School sports teams. I'll concede this point, Oak Hills 9-12 is slightly larger than Mentor's 10-12.
Mentor graduated 783 students last May.
I’m sure Oak Hills decision to keep all those students together has something to do with their funding issues and lack of the community’s willingness to increase property taxes to pay for more schools.

i think the bottomline of this arguement is that ries is going nowhere and hes thrilled to death about it (to quote cool runnings). i also play for a gcl school. no free tuition offer, just a good reputation for being good at sports and education. there are many appeals to going to a gcl school

The only recruiting any of the GCL schools do is win. If somebody lives in Delhi and is really good at volleyball, and they had the choice to go to either Oak Hills or Elder, 9 out of 10 would choose Elder because they know they would have the chance to play against the best and beat the best.

Same... And i kind of doubt volleyball being a big influential factor in deciding what high school a person is going to... I might be able to see one of the major sports like football or basketball doing that but volleyball? I play vball and i enjoy it but u have to realize it isnt very popular

I'm pretty sure Elder won the City Title this year in bowling, but I heard they lost to Oakie High... Who cares, this is a volleyball forum...

Just for the record... If Elder was going to offer scholarships for a sport... It'd be football, volleyball gets no love... Secondly... Sadly enough, I play chess for Elder. ha. There is no state tournament, and when we played oak hills last year for the first time, we won... There are two seperate city tournaments and oak hills is in the weaker of the two... But yeah back to volleyball... I wish I, or any of my teammates were getting paid to play. That'd be amazing

I agree..

i dont know what ries is thinking but he is not that good i have seen him play a couple of times and he is terrible so i think that all he is trying to do is talk up oak hills when in acutallity they suck.... joke hills i like that

You know what they are going to get on Yappi next, a chess forum. Just kidding. Elder should be pretty good this year from the reports...

Outside: Averbeck and (Friedmann, kappa, herring....)
Middle: Hanneken and Toth
Setter: Buttelwerth
Libero: Bertke or Schimmel
Weakside: Baldrick

I purposely left out both of the Wessels because they play basketball and they won't be able to practice or compete for a volleyball starting spot til the week before or after our season starts...

I agree with the Wessels but within a few weeks they will both be starting, Craig at setter and Andrew will play outside. I think bertke will be libero and schimmel will hopefully play backrow for baldrick. But for the start of the season it will be close race for the other outside position.
