My personal way too early predictions for the new look NLL

NLL TOP Division 14 games

Anthony Wayne 14-0 16-0 Rogers, Toledo Christian (6 GAMES REMAINING TO BE SCHEDULED?!?!) The Bender’s are stronger than last year. AW had 16 kids on AAU teams down in Louisville this week. Pikes' have a year under their belt. Smith is a good defender. Brenneman’s will bring even more scoring in as Freshmen. DEEP DEEP team. I know they will probably schedule some tough games with their last 6, but they wont lose to anyone on their schedule at this moment. Can they make a state run this year?

Perrysburg 9-5 14-5 (still 3 games need to be scheduled) non conference wins Bellevue, St. Ursula, AA Pioneer, Wauseon. P burg loses Gibbs, but returns Turk.. if you let her go right, you’re in trouble. She finishes very well for her size., Kilbride is back as well as Thames. (excited to see her after a season under her belt), Also back are Griggs, and Takats (even though Vball is number one for her, she could be an elite Center if she wanted to.) This is another complete team. It's going to be close with Findlay and Perrysburg. They could go far into the tourney.

Findlay 9-5 18-4 Elida, St. Mary’s, Scott, Lima Sr. Lima Shawnee, Wapakoneta, Defiance, Ashland

Findlay is deep, The Steckshultes are tough, Sophia Myers is one of the most imposing defensive bigs in the area. Mangas and Arredando are good players as well. They have a lot of scorers. They have a complete team with no real holes. Will they beat Perrysburg? I could see them knocking off Fremont again.

Whitmer 8-6 (11-8) (games remaining to schedule) Rogers, Bowsher, Brush

Loss SUA, Medina Highland, Denny Lawrence is a defensive menace, Sydney Borer is one of the best shooters in the area and Jada Shoup is Kevin McHale’s kid.. same game… Welch is strong, will control the boards. Will Kynard and Hughes be a factor this year??? If not they have a lights out shooting underclassmen ready to step in. Whitmer is a team that can beat anyone. I see them taking care of business in the lower division and probably splitting home and homes with NV and P burg when they play their doubleheaders up top. (They game planned very well against Ross second time around last year, I would think same thing minus Janiah would bear similar success) The Panthers JV team was rocking this summer winning tournaments and the future looks bright. As for the Varsity Panthers, their weakness will be size. While Shoup is a great rebounder, she gives up too much height to stop the better 6 footers in the league from scoring. Perhaps Coach Kynard dials up the press all game and this team will make some noise.

Sylvania Northview 7-7 11-9 (two left to schedule) non conferecne wins- St. Ursula, Bowsher, Northwood, Genoa
Loss- Bedford. Losing Maddie Greene was big. Cannon may be ready for the challenge to pick up some of the 15 ppg she leaves behind. Allison Biggs is a nice wing that can shoot the lights out and of course they will go as Grace Krahl goes. She is a super Soph with range. She sometimes falls in love with the logo shots. There will be nights this young team can pull an upset and there will be nights they shoot themselves out of it. Coach also scheduled a ton of creampuffs, so hopefully those tough nights aren’t during NLL Play.

NLL Bottom division 15 games

Fremont Ross 13-2 16-5???? ONE of Margaretta/Start, Perkins, Columbian,

Losses- Highland, Magnificat, One of Start/Margaretta Still missing a game on the schedule. Ross will go as far as Destiny Robinson will take them. Karma is tough and makes for a solid 1-2 punch. Wolfe can shoot it well, but at 6’2ish I’d like to see her get stronger and have an impact inside the arc. I’m curious to see how much Heidelburg improved as the staff appeared to shorten her role the deeper the season went last year. Again this team will go as far as Destiny takes them. If she is passive in big games, they’ll be in trouble, but when that killer instinct comes out there isn’t a better guard in the area.

Springfield 8-7 9-10 nc wins -Archbold (still need to schedule 3 games) Kendall Caruthers is the biggest single loss in the conference. They return Gretchen Sigman who is a walking double double along with Aleah Hodges and Jade Battle. Kalaia Taylor also adds some defense to the Blue Devils lineup. I feel like we are going to see just how good KC was last year as any coach would like to have 4 starters back, but they will still ultimately take a step back missing one of the best players in their history.

MAJOR DROP OFF

Napoleon 5-10 8-14 Patrick Henry, Defiance, Archbold

Napoleon lost Chipps as well as their State Champion Coach. The Cats return McKayla Kruse and Ella Tassler as well as welcome in a strong freshmen class. I would probably consider this a rebuilding year.

Bowling Green 4-9 5-17 Non conference wins- Maumee, * BG doesn’t have anything for talent returning. However, if Emily Baer plays her senior year for the Lady Bobcats, she is easily a top 7 player in this league. That will be enough to beat Southview and Clay both times. If she doesn’t play, SV will be 4-11, Clay will be 2-13, and BG will be 0-15.

Southview 3-12 6-16 chances for nc wins- Wauseon, Wapakoneta, Bowsher

Graduating 6 seniors and a lot of points, Coach Heil left the cupboards pretty empty here when she stepped down after a great run. However SV was smart enough to bring in an on staff coach so the offense and defensive philosophies should be similar. The big return is Mariam Kassem. She can score inside and out. Lacie Filas was a nice freshmen, and I like Kara Barnett. She should emerge as a good post option now that she has a chance.

Clay 0-15 1-22 non league wins Stritch

Just when Clay had some momentum going, they fired another coach. Hearing the new AD came in cleaned house and hired his buddy. This is a disaster in the making. A non experienced Varsity coach in this caliber league= back to the Julia Henneman Dallape times. Good luck. The Eagles return Kendra Stevens, and Brynn Reiter. They will more than likely win their first game against Stritch by a landslide and that’s all she wrote. I don’t think they’re tough enough to beat SV who is going to at least be physical. If by chance Baer doesn’t play for BG they will win those 2 games and up their record to 3-22.

I 100% agree with the fact that it will simply be a battle for 2nd place. Anthony Wayne is head and shoulders above everyone else. 3 sets of really good twins.

I was with you last year in the TRAC, Keith.. but this year without Janiah, teams are going to throw a lot of double teams Destiny's way. Not gonna beat Anthony Wayne this year. They will definitely still dominate the lower enrollment division though.

Destiny Robinson commits to Toledo. Congrats to a class player! I’m excited to see how her and Kendall Braden run that back court on a reloading 2024 class.

Cullop has done a good job with getting local players from the area compared to TK.

Curious, (I voted P Burg 2nd) The two folks who voted for Whitmer..... Are there any surprise transfers, or do you think what they had last year is enough to make a big leap?

Whitmer might be out of the top 4 losing Denni Lawrence to St. Vincent St. Mary. The freshman leaving district and going to Start.

Let me guess another SMAC recruit. That's 7 transfers in 3 years and all are eligible for the entire season
More than likely. Just like anything else as long as there isn’t any text messages or email documentation there isn’t really anything for the state to go off of. 🤷‍♂️ Loopholes are everywhere.

Life is good when you are a private school coach and AAU coach.

Definitely. We all have our sides. I’m lucky to be pretty neutral. Probably more public leaning as far as biases go. But in all honesty I’ve seen more recruiting on the public side than I have with the private. Just on the public side you have to go through more loop holes to cheat. Private doesn’t have to which makes it easier. But both have definitely benefited from the ability to find those loopholes and not send texts and emails. It’s crazy how blatant it’s getting.

There should be a rule that you have to sit out the 2nd half of the year and tournament if you transfer to a school with a coach that was also your AAU coach.

That would definitely stop a lot of that. My thoughts With a lot of these transfers now a days are “if it’s best for the kid and the family feels that way it should be allowed if it clears the rules” it’s so hard to police these things and at the end of the day it doesn’t hurt the actual coaches it more times than not hurts the kid. It’s very interesting when you look at the reverse. Where are these kids leaving from? Why are they leaving? Are they leaving a bad situation for a better one? There is so much that needs to be looked at.
