Early D3 Projections

Is Goebel or Pizzuto the early favorite for 119? Goebel is 2-1 vs Pizzuto. An 8-0 dec win, a 6-2 dec loss, and a 1-0 dec in OT. What are your thoughts?

I would say Goebel. Finished higher and has beaten him the past two years at states, but I guarantee I get called a hater for this so it's anyones call, Goebel is a State Champ and 3rd the past two years while Pizzuto was 6th and 4th, they were at the same weights and wrestled each other. No way you can say Pizzuto is the favorite, NO WAY!

Goebel is the favorite, he has won the prior matches head to head. Your not saying that there is no way Pizzuto could win, just that Goebel is the favorite based on prior match ups. People shouldn't bash for that. The wrestling will follow.

goebel will have the ironman and medina to get him ready for post season. What does pizzuto's schedule look like? Not that it makes much difference, just curious.

Pizzuto will have solon brecksville and hephner along with cvca dual to get ready last yr he wasnt healthy the whole yr he had two weeks to get ready for states then he went to place at flonationals also. Its a toss up who is the favorite!!!

Still believe that Pizzuto should go 112, probably one the the weakess weight classes in D3.At this rate, its up for grabs.

Pizzuto was a huge 112 last year, don't see him making that cut. It would be great for him if he could, would probably be a lock for the title.

There is a preseason all-star match at Jackson-Milton H.S this Thursday at 6 p.m. Tim Wiseman and Vinnie Pizzuto will be wrestling in it for the Blue Jays. Not sure who all else will be there but it should be some wrestlers from the EOWL.

119 will be stacked and a lot more at that weight will have a lot to say about who is a favorite by the end of the regular season. 112 is definitely weaker this year. 125 tough but not quite as deep as 119. The season will shake some things out.

If the 119 weight class is stacked, I don't believe wrestlers would go to 125 rather to 112. Why? Second day of the tournament would be rough due to weight.

I wasn't impressed with his performance at states, he did wrestle pretty well in the consolation bracket though. Bucksman had him ranked pretty high and I guess my expectations for him were a little better than where he finished. He is obviously above Cam Michel from Edison but 112 is extremely weak and it's still really early.

Dexter Lee will be at 112 for elmwood. Where does he stand?

Definite sectional qualifier. But with elmwood's schedule, keeping the weight down, who knows what will happen after that. Long season, that's why they wrestle the matches. I mean after last year, it's all uphill! Go get 'em kid.

I agree that the Lee boy from Elmwood should have won his 1st match and by the way I think that he was predicted 8th and took 7th. i was impressed w/ his performance considering he lost over 15 matches the yr before.
Watch out for Goebel as well. He is a winner...hates losing and it looking for another shot at the top spot and at 119. Both of these young men will be focusing on wrestling as soon as they are done running at State in CC.

it was his older brother wes lee that got inured in the first round. Very dissapointing for him considering he was projected runner up to the great logan stieber.

The Don,
Maybe you made a typo.....but to wrestle at State you must be sectional qualifier! It will be a tough season cuz Elmwood's schedule is far from easy...thus ...hopefully it will be downhill instead of uphill. Being a workout partner w/ Nick Goebel will definately help him get where he wants to go.

Why are these 2 not in the conversation?

I think you all are making a big mistake if your looking past William Spangler @119. He beat both Pizzuto and the eventual SC Dronzek at districts...and was winning his match at state to get into the finals, against Mansfield, before losing it in the final seconds of the match. Both, William and Brian Spangler, have grown and have done nothing but wrestle and lift all summer. Brian will be @125. I wouldn't look past either of them.

My son Zack wrestled both Spanglers this summer a couple times and I agree no one should count them out. Very tough physical wrestlers. Don't under estimate either one of them,, Good luck to both. Good Family!

Great family! The boys have been banging hard all summer! I see them all the time pushing themselves. Their Dad is a great guy and both the boys have been inthe room they need to be in to get what they need to prep them for the year. I can't say enough about these two!
