DP/Flex Proper Application

Has anyone else run into a situation where the umpire would not allow the DP to take the field as a position swap (not a substitution) for someone other than the Flex. The NFHS website clarification of the application of the DP/Flex ruels clearly says that you can do this, but at our game on Friday the umpire would not allow it.

You are right, you're DP is permitted to take the field in any position. There are a lot of otherwise good umpires in this area who do not understand the DP/Flex rules.

They seem to think it is the same as the DH rule and there are a number of differences

It was discused as a point of emphasis at the rules interp meetings this year good to see the umpires brushing up on the rules. Your DP can play a different position every inning if you want.

The way the DP rule is written, I'm not surprised more umpires don't understand it.
