Dover football 2025

Gardner Pros - Proven OC with lots of head coaching experience and a "Hometown Boy" (Not sure if this is more pro or con...)
Gardner Cons - Applied for the job and didn't get it. So either he has a noble heart and bleeds Dover Crimson or has an alternative motive (perhaps he wants a job so he can leave West Holmes?)

He accepted a job last night at the board meeting and will be working at Dover this Fall.

Zach is much more than that. He is a teacher on the field. He is a motivator. Is he loud and demanding? Yes. Does he get results? Yes. He isnt everyones cup of tea, obviously, but I respect him and know first hand the impact he made on the players at Indian Valley where he was a huge part of turning the program around.
My son played for Zach when he coached linebackers and was DEFENSIVE coordinator under Matt Lancaster and speaks highly of him to this day.

Not every day that an outside coach that did not get the job is hired to “assist” the assistant that was elevated. I’m guessing the new head coach was not behind this decision. How long before Gardner is head coach?
I tend to believe there could be conflicts in this situation. If coach Rees is a defensive coach and with coach Gardner having a history as a quality Defensive Coordinator, their respective philosophies might not mesh. I wish them the best. T County needs Dover to be a good program.

I could be wrong, but I think Zach was hired to run the offense, not the defense. Again, I don't know all the details, but that was the way I had heard it.

I don't think Matt has an ego or is looking over his shoulder with this hire. I'm sure he was on board or I doubt the hire would have happened. It will be a great tool for a new coach to have a veteran head coach on the staff to help move his vision forward.

If he truly was hired without Rees's confirmation, that's probably not a great start. I guess time will tell.

I have a hunch that Matt and Zach have a ton of respect for each other and have established a great relationship over the last 4-5 years. Doubtful for a WWF turn/backstab from either one of them... Seems like wishful thinking from Dover opponents that it won't work, seems like the perfect pair to reignite the program. Excited for the future! Have also heard good things about the weight room.

Believe Rees senior year of football was 2003, Gardner 2000. Both All-Ohio LBs I think as well. There was a long line of dude Dover LBs from the first decade of Ifft!

Threads been quiet since the coach hiring. Anyone have any news on the program? New DC, 2nd week opponent, any transfers, all of lasts years underclassmen coming back? Just any general news. Are the numbers going up, down, about the same?
