Does Mason have a chance at the #1 spot in GMC?

Mason only plays Sycamore, East and Princeton once. So you can certainly see scenarios that could lead to the Comets winning the GMC.

If you are happy they don't face these teams twice then how confident are you that Mason can beat Sycamore, East, and Princeton even once.
Can Mason win the GMC? In a word, no.

I think your missing the point of cometcenters reflection on the question. Mason has a scheduling advantage because their 2 game match ups are against presumably weaker GMC teams versus playing 1X Sycamore, East and Princeton. Since Sycamore already beat them that opportunity is gone but if the 3 mentioned opponents all split and Mason beats 1-2 of them (Princeton and/or East), they do have a favorable schedule to capture the GMC. So in a word, YES. But every game counts and presumed weaker teams are not to ever be taken lightly in the GMC.
