I would guess Lutheran East and Richmond Hts will have a discussion about which will go up to D1 and other stay at D5. If they both stay in D5 they would play in the regionalCandidates to opt to D I? Elder?
How can they not? They've literally been to like 3 regional brackets these past 4 years in D1. They absolutely should jump to D1, but they won't in basketball. You can tell by who they schedule where they think they belong. The funny thing is, for years they thumbed their noses at anything less than D1. But now daddy ball politics has become more important than winning at Elder. All of those daddy ball guys can't wait to win more, and not have to fear outside talent taking spots. They are so happy. I predict they don't jump up, but they 100% should.Candidates to opt to D I? Elder?
They’ll have to do multiple divisions the same and some distance apart so no I won’t be able to.They will all be available for you to hit. Many have been done going to the state games but they still watch regular season and tournament. If you walk away completely the division expansion has little to do with that.
When they find a good regional site I’m guessing it will host multiple games and multiple divisions. They’ll have to do multiple divisions the same and some distance apart so no I won’t be able to.
Every school in our area has been losing attendance every year….
Lutheran East and Richmond Heights would compete for a D1 championship, either of them staying in D5 to win a championship would be embarrassing for them. Why would a "fill in the blank" school, not matter how good they are, want to move up? I'd rather be king of D-IV than an afterthought in D-I.
Some may feel that competing for a championship is not as good as winning a championship.Lutheran East and Richmond Heights would compete for a D1 championship, either of them staying in D5 to win a championship would be embarrassing for them.
Russia choosing to move up to D1 would fit in your example of being an afterthought versus winning championships.
There are fans on this site that want teams to lose because they feel they are cheating. So they are vocally supporting them to want to move into the largest school division. Why would a "fill in the blank" school, not matter how good they are, want to move up? I'd rather be king of D-IV than an afterthought in D-I.
If any, I'll go with Lima Senior. After that, probably Richmond Heights.Candidates to opt to D I? Elder?
Lima Sr is D2 so I'm not sure there is much to gain. Plus I'm guessing Coach Q would love to have a run to Dayton. If any, I'll go with Lima Senior. After that, probably Richmond Heights.
Lutheran East isn't going to move up because they're not going to be the same dominant type of team they've been the last several years.Lutheran East and Richmond Heights would compete for a D1 championship, either of them staying in D5 to win a championship would be embarrassing for them.

Honest question, no snark.....do you think RH supporters are proud of their D4 state championships? I would think it is a little embarrassing acquiring great players, playing in the City of Palms and a great D1 schedule and then playing/winning the D4 state championship. Some may feel that competing for a championship is not as good as winning a championship.
No, the vote is Wednesday to decide if it's going to be allowed. Teams don't have to decide until the season is startingThe deadline for the choice to go D1 is Wednesday, correct? There are some programs where we will see them show their true colors. You can't hide from the vote.
I hope they put these ADs and coaches in front of multiple cameras when they ask them why loaded and recruited publics and resource rich privates chose the easy route just for trophies, especially after decades of some of them completely admonishing other programs for doing the same (e.g. how Elder people thumbed their noses at LaSalle and said their championships weren't worthy when they went D2).
Ramsey would quit before he went to D2 (yes I know Elder football will be D1).
Really? Seems like a tight deadline for planning if you can wait all the way up to the start of the season. No, the vote is Wednesday to decide if it's going to be allowed. Teams don't have to decide until the season is starting
The deadline for teams to decide if they want to move to D1 is actually 2 weeks after the start of the respective season on a sport-by-sport basis. (A school could be D1 for basketball but stay D3 in baseball.)No, the vote is Wednesday to decide if it's going to be allowed. Teams don't have to decide until the season is starting
I agree with this statement in the sense that many fans who lack knowledge of the difficulty to reach or even compete for any title seem to have an all or nothing mentality. Some may feel that competing for a championship is not as good as winning a championship.
Yes, it's challenging. It should be challenging.I agree with this statement in the sense that many fans who lack knowledge of the difficulty to reach or even compete for any title seem to have an all or nothing mentality.
I don’t know their thoughts and feelings but I would ask if the RH supports you speak are the ones acquiring the talent to win state titles at a D4 school?Honest question, no snark.....do you think RH supporters are proud of their D4 state championships? .....and one of those that you mentioned probably belonged to be in the lower division that they were playing in lolSome of the best programs in Ohio have won a majority of their championships in the lower divisions - SVSM, VASJ, Richmond Heights, Lutheran East, LCC, etc
It depends. Talent in the Toledo area is severely down and with other programs getting decent players like Whitmer, Central Catholic and SFS (top 8th grader going there) I am not sure there is going to be enough fire power to make it going happen. 7 divisions definitely gives a Toledo area team a good chance (SJJ 2 years ago had a 0.01% chance to win it once they got down there) and hopefully within the next 5 the area can break its 24 year title drought.Over/Under on how long it takes St. John's Jesuit to win a title under the new format? 3.5 years? 4.5 years?
That's one school that really jumped out at me with D2 looking thin on quality compared to D1 and D3. They've had a lot of really good teams over the years and some state tournament runs. I could see them start to stack state championships in D2 as currently constructed.
You mean 34 years? Am I missing anyone since Scott in 90?It depends. Fat thumbs. Hit the 2 instead of the 3.You mean 34 years? Am I missing anyone since Scott in 90?
I’m assuming it will stay 64, 64 and they will just move teams down. If the other teams don’t want to move down I am assuming they don’t really care about those feelings and honestly they shouldn’t have to care about those feelings. That would be the easiest way to do it.Assuming they pass this move up to D1, how will this work then for the different Divisions? Let's assume two D2 teams move up and a D3 team. Will the D1 bracket now have 67 teams or will the bottom enrollment D1 schools move down to D2? Same with D2 Will they then have 62 teams instead of 64? If you move the bottom enrollment of D1 down, what if they don't want to move down? Same for D2, would they maybe move the top enrollment D3 schools up or just leave it as a 62 team division? Just curious on how Ohsaa plans to address this pending this passes.

If the proposal passes and teams opt up to D1, D1 will have more than 64 teams (or more than 72 in football). No teams will be moved down a division as a result of another team opting up.I’m assuming it will stay 64, 64 and they will just move teams down.
