I will be on top of it documenting the changes in all-time lists. I'm curious to see how they'll handle meet record progressions. As someone who has tried to make heads-n-tails of OHSAA meet record progressions in 1921 from no classificiation to Classes A & B, then in 1971 from Classes AA & A (formerly A & B, respectively) to Class AAA, AA, and A, it is a CHALLENGE. The 1920-1921 changes are difficult to make out, but that's not surprising given that data is now 100+ years old. However, the 1970-71 changes were clearly delineated in 1971. I have that documented in old newspaper articles. However, OHSAA, in its mysterious ways, fiddled with those changes somewhere in the 1973-74 era and I'm trying to document what happened. This is all aside from the complete disaster OHSAA made of record-keeping when going from manual-timing to FAT & from yards to meters in the early 80s. Fortunately, many of us were around then and can makes heads-n-tails of that data.
Finally, a side note to the 1970-71 change from 2 classes to 3 classes - OHSAA had initially planned to simply retire ALL state meet records prior to 1971 and establish all new ones in 1971. Needless to say, there was a loud hue and cry over that initial decision. Push back was BIG and resulted in them migrating the records. All the big school Class AA marks went to the new Class AAA. The small schools Class A marks were divided into the Class AA & Class A by assigning the event record to the Class that the record-holder's school would have been assigned to in 1971.
I look forward to the changes coming...they are long overdue.
