Going to be wild to see if Anderson has a 4th and 6 for example on their own 30 in the first half and they go for it.
I heard they only punted once or twice all year. One time they had a 4th and 15 at their own 6, and went for it. They made the first down

Anderson punted 2 times against LaSalle and were 3/6 on 4th down…against Big Walnut Anderson did not punt and they were 0/1 on fourth down. I hate when Coach Dreyer goes for it deep in his own end. It’s no big deal during the regular season but in the state championship it seems nucking futs.

Both teams are battle-tested, this should be a great game to kick off the action for the weekend! I think Avon should take this one, they have been so solid all season, but there is a chance they have some turnovers and this game becomes very close!

His game plan has been uber successful all year, who would change up that staple in their coaching, just because it’s the state championship? Nothing in the world could show more confidence in his team than that.

CJB is right on this. Avon hasn't really played a true spread team this year. I guess Berea and possibly Highland to an extent. It's going to be much different and a different challenge. Avon has played some very good OLs all year though and have consistently found a way to get pressure with four which is huge.

Hoban had the one quick drive last night when it was 28-3. I think the overall difference that was evident last night and has been all year is Avon's team speed and all over. On all three levels of the defense and all parts of the offense, they have serious speed. Feister had holes last night at times and when you think he might go, an Eagle was flying downhill to limit the big play.
I think Avon will win. I think it's their year. But if they haven't played against a spread this year, it will be challenging.

2 years ago, TCC played in the regional final against Kings Mills Kings (the week after we beat Avon). Kings ran a spread with a very talented QB who is a backup QB at Cincinnati and a WR who is also at Cincinnati. TCC managed to hit a 52 yard field goal right before half time. That turned out to be the difference because we couldn't stop Kings. We scored a TD with 28 seconds left to go up by 3. But Kings ran out of time and were forced to try a 34 yard field goal at the end of the game to tie it up but it failed pretty bad. The Kings QB, Will Kocher, was 27 of 49 passing for 567 yards and TD's passing plus 2 more rushing.

I don't know how good Anderson's QB is but Avon cannot take them for granted. I don't think TCC took Kings for granted in 2022 by any stretch. It will take a great effort by the players and a great game plan by the coaches.

When it works you look like a genius. When it doesn’t…the game can get away from you real quick

In 2010 I watched a playoff game between Alter and Kenton, where Kenton had not punted all season; and, they onside kicked every time too. If they had only punted 50% of the time they would have won the game handily. instead, they lost.

Andersons punter is the QB and he has punted 3 and averaged 30 yards.

They will go for it they don't care lol. 4th and 6 4th and 8 from their own 20 ,10 they go for it. Last year Massillon played them and they were successful maybe 2 or 3 times out of 10 on 4th down and they continued to keep going for it

Yeah, when they do punt, the qb just punts out of the shotgun, so you can’t be totally sure if they’re punting or going for it. Quite a vexing little dilemma.

I will admit I don't know anything about Anderson. I have however followed Avon this season (since Highland and Avon were on a collision course since week 1) and watched Avon in their games against Highland and Hoban.

Anderson better come fully prepared.

Highland is big, nasty, and ran all over everyone while working a nice pass game with has a great front 7 on defense to compliment. Avon put 310 rushing yards on us; including a few chunk plays. Anyone who watched the Hoban game knows that Avon was in control of that game from the kickoff against a Hoban team that beat all the teams you're supposed to beat to be a contender.

Again, I wouldn't know the Anderson Raptors from Adam, but looking at their opponents and results, I see a two-score game for Avon.

I tell you what, next to Coldwater/Kirtland, this is the state championship game I'm anticipating most. I'm really excited for Avon to have gotten to the state championship and this Anderson team is exciting. I expect we'll see some points scored as well. I'll go with:

Avon 35
Anderson 28

No one has really slowed Anderson down since Massillon last year (except for some self inflicted turnovers). The defense is much, much better than last year and the O line has been amazing (particularly in pass protection). If the QB has time they will score. I am concerned however about the weather forecast Thursday…really cold and windy with 40mph gusts. That may shorten up the routes and compress the field. Go Raptors.

Anderson QB Justice Burnam had thrown at least one TD pass in 28 straight starts to begin his career; he didn't throw one in either the R8 championship vs. La Salle or the semis against Big Walnut. A lot of this is because HC Evan Dreyer loves to run Burnam like he's JT Barrett in the biggest games.

How many runs will Burnam last? That Avon D flies around. Ask 18 from Hoban…

Apples and oranges dude. Burnam is a north/south QB runner out of the spread. If the box is packed he will throw it…if you only rush 3-4 he will QB draw & run it. He’s a strong runner but not exceptional. He’s a much better passer imho. Hoban is a pound the rock team…18 is a traditional RB. Couldn’t be more different.

Interesting Drew's performance rankings and the trend. Anderson trending down from a 187 to now a 177 rating. Avon trending up from a low of 172 to a current rating of 186.

Sorry, but this doesn't mean anything. Games are played on the field by players, and coaching. Not by some computer software.

Does that mean that at one point he would’ve had Anderson by 15? Just wondering.
Don't know if 15 but many weeks Anderson would have been a favorite in this game. Just a statistical analysis that re-computes each week. If it was set in stone, it would be Hoban and Massillion playing TH night as they have been the highest rated teams most of the year. Fun to look at but certainly nothing more than that. If it was Massillon would the game have been on Thursday night?

This. Anderson seems more like where Avon was a few years ago. There are dues to pay and if they keep raising their bar they will get there too. Just feels like it is Avon's turn, NOW. That said I certainly do not count Anderson out. Avon has a huge cloud to come down from, in very short order. Can't be overstated.
When Avon played Trotwood in 2011, the teams lined up the first time and the size difference was very apparent. Avon played really hard, had some success in the pass but running was very difficult and Trotwood just was the bigger, faster team. There is a substantial difference tomorrow night in the size of the lines and could be more of a factor with cold, windy weather. Avon OL is big and very athletic. Every year is different but Massillon was getting home with with 3 often and 4 always recording 8 sacks last year and that was without Pringle their best defensive player. Avon has 2 D1 guys on Dline and 3 when they have Kelly out there. I believe this is going to be the difference in the game. If Eagles can get there with a 3 man rush on defense it is going to be very difficult. Anderson, as Avon did in 2011, will have its moments as they not doubt have playmakers but Avon's size and speed will take its toll. This is the fastest team at all three levels at Avon I can remember. Also have the guy at QB who is 27-0 as a starter.
