Any results from todays state matches?
D1 singles. Kobelt beat lippertt in three sets. D1 doubles. Kilbourne beat the diaz brothers in straight sets. D2 singles fritz beat goldberg in straights. D2 dubs CVCA beat columbus Acadamy in straights. Stx dubs barely lost in quarters to Kilbourne and Wyoming dubs finished third for cincy people. Seven Hills lost in dubs quarter to University school.

I've never been to a HS tennis match, but I was working the event this weekend. The DI singles final was great.

This is a general question for anyone who follows HS tennis:

The difference between the DI finals and the DII singles matches was substantial. The serving and especially the forehand returns had noticeably more pace. I walked straight from the DII 3rd place match to the DI finals and was blown away. Is this normal or was it just a case of 2 special players meeting in the DI final?

no it isnt because of two special players its just that d2 singles is a complete joke outside of mr fritz. i mean sam powell got to state what does that tell you? and mason bourbon placed that isnt ohio tennis anymore.

Sounds like you didn't make the state tournament. Knocking others down makes turpin sound like a big guy. You can take nothing away from any kid cause they earned it. D1 schools traditionaly are better because the size of the schools can be 4 times greater. Your insecurity shows up like a zit on your nose TURPIN. Grow up!

it shows you really dont know anything about tennis.

if you really wanted to see a good tourney you should have gone years past, like the years of eric thomas, comptons, allares, lofgrens. my point was there has beena huge decline in the level of play in the state tourneys. and d2 at one time has had better players than d1 schools. its not based on size of school like other sports, a lot of times smaller schools had great players because they were in nice areas like ih and chca (years past).

even if you would have gone last year it was way more exciting. i mean pat bandy lost in the quarters, i didnt see to many big names losing early because the draw was tough.

i am not taking anything away i am just not giving as much credit because the draws were significantly weaker this year and noone will tell you otherwise.

i couldnt make the tourney because i am out of high school now and if i would have played i would be there.

I've seen the last 10 tourneys and played in state tournaments before. The competition is down in d2 but d1 is pretty strong if Zach Mueck can't even make state. The reason the state is down is because cincy is a little weak right now. But knocking down other players is a bush league way of saying the tourney is weak.

Your 100% wrong on divisions. Number of kids is directly related to what division you go in. I know because i've been on OHSAA staff in the past.

I have to agree with Turpin. I have been following tennis for years and the quality of tennis has dropped off this past year. When this years group graduates tennis in Ohio will be a joke. Throw out the top four players and it looks like rest of the players just decided to pick up a racket over the winter and play tennis. In the past years you had to be good to get to state, now you don't.

All That, I believe this is the statement you were responding to with your post about the size of the school mattering with regard to divisions. I believe what Turpin was saying (or at least the way I read it) was not that the divisions are not based on size like other sports, but that the quality is not dependent on the size of the school like other sports. I think it's common sense that the bigger the team the more enrollment matters (hence why it matters most in football). Since tennis is basically an individual sport I see Turpin's point.

i am not coming down on them i am just stating the lack of depth of and the lack of skill in the players in the tourney. if you could prove to my why i am wrong on why this tourney is weaker than years past that would be great. the kids should be happy they were there especially in a down year.

and that just the way the cookie crumbles. its all about the draws and it does stink that mueck didnt get there but everyone pays their dues to get there. he just had a bad draw but that is not the first time a kid that deserves to be there doesnt get there. look at wyatts first year making it to state he beat torbeck. torbeck beat shankar in the sectionals but didnt get there when shankar did. heck ryan bandy didnt get to state last year bc they had to play middletown and went three sets in a tie breaker. thats just how it is getting to the tourney. it stinks that zack wasnt there when you have some kids that are average at best making the tourney
