DI Southwest District Championships

Glen Este
Lebanon
Northmont
Lakota West

These were all pretty tough games to pick. I think all are pretty evenly matched and either team could win. I have never seen Lakota west or Mt Notre dame play so i have no idea right there.

First of all, congratulations to the four GMC teams that have made it this far. It shows just how tough this conference is. So, here are my picks.

1) Glen Este: GE has more hitters than Lakota East

2) Lebanon: Fairfield has great pitching, but is prone to too many errors

3) Mason: This one should be really close, and either team has an equal chance, I picked Mason out of GMC loyalty and I think that they will be better than Northmont at small ball

4) Lakota West: I haven't seen MND this year, but I'm picking Lakota West b/c of pitching

I think Fairfield and East have to be rated as underdogs.

Mason v Northmont is dead even.

West should be the favorite.

Glen Este vs Lakota East postponed to Monday at 6:00PM at Mason

I know girls on glen este, west, and mnd.
Hard to pick one.

Boering from MND is one heck of a hitter. She was a good hitter when my daughter played with her when they were 6-7 years old. Grew up playing baseball with the boys.

I work with Alex Caudell from west on hitting some. She is a great girl and one heck of a pitcher.

Going with

West
Northmont
Lebananon
Glen Este

Straightleg

Mason 4 Northmont 2 (8 innings)

Mason tied the score with 2 runs in the top of the 7th.

Congratulations to Coach Castner and the Comets on another district championship.

What a game. As a neutral observer, I thought Mason overcame a lot, including a home plate umpire that was clearly in over his head. Mason had several innings with runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs and couldn't score. You just had the feeling they would break through eventually, and they did. Congrats to the Comets.

I agree with the umpiring it was not very good. That has been are achelies heel hitting. We just can't hit very well. It hurt us and as soon as the defense made the first error which was in the 7th inning mason capitalized on it and scored. We made three errors in a row pretty much in the seventh to give the game away. Once Mason broke through. They started finding the wholes the next inning. when it was tied 2 to 2. It was a pretty good game a lot of drama. Good luck Mason on the next round.

It was a great game for sure. And you are right.. the umpire was calling some horrible pitches but I didn't doubt that Mason would come back. It was just a matter of when. They have way too much experience on their team to not come back like they did. And I got a laugh out of the chants about the GWOC.. they sure quieted down once Mason tied it up. Go GMC!

Lakota West 4 MND 1

That sets up another Castner regional semifinal: West vs Mason

Meanwhile...... Lakota East run rules Glen Este 11-0.
Did not see that one coming.

Wow, L. East spanks Glen este. what a way to end your season. an 11-0 whipping will make it hurt all year long. typically the castner bros get very favorable umpires set ups for their tournament games down there making it tough to beat them.

Yep. Everyone knows which umpires are going to favor the Castners and then it is a shoo in they are going to get assigned their games. And the OHSAA gets many complaints, but they ignore them because they like the Castners too.

Those umpires really did a number on Glen Este eh Stugots? You always see umpires make games 11-0 with favoritism.

You must not be able to read the posts about the Northmont vs Mason game and the poor umpiring that did not help Mason one bit.

Sometimes I just shake my head at Yappi posters and get back to enjoying high school sports and common sense.

It's really hard on those umps when West plays Mason. They're constantly changing calls 'cuz they don't know which team to favor. Actually, playing in the GMC as opposed to the FAVC will prepare you for the big games. Not to mention all the District championship games East, West and Mason have experienced.

What a JOKE!!! Congrats to all the Castner brothers for making it this far!!!

Did Benhase give up all those runs?

Well, first of all, congratulations to Bethany on her perfect game!

As to the Lakota East/Glen Este game, I am very excited that LE won, but wow was I really surprised by the score. I thought that the GE hitters would decide this game, but it came down to the LE hitters.

Good luck to all the SW teams!

well exactly how many final 4's or state finals have the bros been in over the years. once they get out of the umpire frindly SW (where they are able to influence who gets what game) they tend to peeter out.
never said that the umpires alone had anything to do with the run rule over glen este, they have been overrated all year and it was only a metter of time until the wheels fell off. but anyone who knows softball in the sw area knows full well that the castner bros influence things down there big time. from the tournament seeding to the umpire scheduling, their fingerprints are all over it.

Are you kidding? 2007 Semi Final Game. Mason had "their" umpiring crew. Couldn't/wouldn't call a curve ball to save his life. Mason lost the game 2-1, 0 earned runs, gave up 2 hits, both runners who scored got on base with walks because he couldn't/wouldn't call a curve ball.

Ever been at a Castner/Castner game? Entertaining to say the least. Would love to hear the banter around the table at Thanksgiving.

Bottom line is that when you can remember who the umpire was during the game, it became about the umpire and not about the girls playing the game they love.

Can also confirm that the Castner Brothers have very little if any influence over the umpires that are assigned games. With a few excptions, the umpiring crews should have retired several years ago. When the choices of activities of the day involve shuffle board, bingo or ump a softball game somethings a little off.

you obviously miss the point. for years the castner bros have influenced who the umpires are in the sw sectional and district games. anyone who looks just a little deeper then the surface knows this. it has a huge impact when you have a pitcher wo throws a particular pitch and can get an umpire schedule for that game who happens to favor that type of pitching style. trust me this happens all the time down there and it has favored them in many instances. I'm sure that it happens elsewhere as well, but I know that it happens there for sure.
i am not saying that the umpires are making any homer calls for them, thats not the point here. again when you can get an umpire who either favors the types of pitches that your pitcher throws, or even better does not favor a pitch that your next opponents ace throws well, this can have an impact, and it does. thats all that i am saying.

The umpire assignments for district/regional/state games are made before it is known who will play in the games. If you're around the softball field before and after games and talk to the umps, you'll hear them (during the regular season) talking about which games they have in the tournament. Do you believe Oswald acted alone in the Kennedy assassination? :)

Hey Stugouts...
Seeing that you are from Northmont, Do you believe that Brian Castner had an influence on the umps in the Distict championship game? If you answer yes to this then you have some serious issues!!!
