NYC MAYOR INVITES DUMMIES INTO ELITE HIGH SCHOOLS-FOR SAKE OF ‘DIVERSITY-PUSHES ASIANS ASIDE

New York City is tweaking the controversial high school admissions process — after outrage from some families who said pandemic-era policy changes discounted good grades, education officials announced Thursday.

Schools Chancellor David Banks introduced the new policy, in which the top 15% of students in each school and citywide — with an average GPA of 90 or above — will be given “first access” to screened schools.

“We do believe in high standards,” Banks said at a news conference.

Roughly 20% of students will fall into that top tier, compared to 60% last year. Criteria for admissions will not include state test scores.

Seats not filled by those students will open up to the next tier — for five tiers in total, to be randomly chosen.

Critics of the past changes to the admissions process said it placed students in schools not matched with abilities — and sometimes far away from their homes and across boroughs. School officials said the contentious policy was a result of the pandemic, and aimed to recognize that usual metrics used in admissions had been disrupted during school closures, like attendance and test scores.

Tucson cops kill man after he points gun at police dog’s head

Arizona police shot a suspect to death after he pointed a handgun at a police dog’s head, video shows.

The Tucson Police department released body cam footage Tuesday of Francisco Javier Galarza aiming a semi-automatic at a K9 named Kiro, as the dog brought the runaway suspect to the ground.

Police instantly opened fire on the man, killing him with several shots.

According to the department, Galarza was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for home invasion and bank robbery.

The 49-year-old was spotted entering a convenience store just before noon on Aug. 25. Police confronted him in the parking lot, but Galarza immediately tried to run away.

“Police! Get down!” Officers can be heard telling Galarza several times in the video as he runs.

Officer Barry Peterson, a 15-year veteran, released Kiro, who tackled Galarza to the ground.

Francisco Javier Galarza is another of those White supremacists that are such a threat

Progressive NYC pols where EMT was murdered urged biz owners NOT to call the cops just days earlier

Two days before a maniac stabbed to death a veteran EMT lieutenant and grandmother in Astoria on Thursday, defund-the-police-promoting Queens Councilwoman Tiffany Caban and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani released a “public safety” guide discouraging merchants from calling the cops.

The guide from the two Democrats urges small business owners to dial 311, seek mental health services for people with mental illnesses, and engage in “community mediation” instead of calling 911 to summon the police when there is trouble in many cases.

It also advises merchants to “give the person causing harm the chance to correct their behavior” before seeking intervention.

“Say `no’, `Stop”’, or `That is not Okay,’” the guide says.

“We’re distributing them to local businesses, so our neighborhood is equipped with better ways of solving problems than simply summoning police every time a challenge arises,” Caban tweeted on Sept. 27 while circulating the “Small Business Public Safety Resources Guide.”

THE PRIDE OF AMERICA

Greenwich Village residents are not fans of these new kids on the block.

A band of foul-mouthed, toy gun-waving, pot-puffing high school hooligans are keeping residents of West 13th off 6th Avenue hostage in their own tony homes, terrified denizens told The Post.

For at least a year while school is in session, the roughnecks roam from stoop to stoop every day at lunchtime, rolling blunts, getting high, acting out and taunting anyone who gets in their way.

“They are the bane of the block,” fumed Michael Figueroa, 53, a superintendent for two buildings, who has chased the group from his locations, cleaned up their mess and witnessed the rowdy behavior firsthand.

Both this week and last, The Post spotted the ruffians brandishing realistic-looking imitation guns, which they fired at frightened pedestrians. Neighbors pointed to the fake TEC-9 semi-automatic pistol as a tragedy waiting to happen.

I found just 2

Black girl about a block behind and going the other way... well OK, that could be just a trampy old lady but I think it's a worker. More further north on the street.

Politically, I'm not sure how to take this. The police, which this council person says they supported not cleaning this up or the others sabataging police effort in some way. For sure, if police do not want to be run over by this defund movement, they'd best show what they can accomplish in the districts of those in these ultra-left cities that do continue to support the need for police enforcement. That's a rather nice looking neighborhood so I'm seeing the possiblity it is relatively conservative. It shouldn't have gotten to this point.

Police are human beings. They watch and observe. The abolish and defund movement is real. Oh, it's election time. I was joking

California Decriminalizes Jaywalking Due to Alleged Racial Bias

1664809008911.png

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a law Friday that will decriminalize jaywalking across California, ending the familiar practice of police handing out tickets to pedestrians on the argument that the law is enforced more often against minorities than other people. The new law, AB 2147, known as the “Freedom to Walk Act,” could bring an end to a cultural difference that has marked otherwise libertine Californians as being uniquely deferential to laws governing pedestrian traffic. The difference between Californians, who ostensibly tend to obey “don’t walk” signals, and urban dwellers elsewhere in the country, who are notoriously defiant when it comes to crossing against traffic signals, was lampooned in the 2011 film Friends with Benefits, starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake

The bill’s sponsor, Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), celebrated the governor’s action in a statement on Friday: “It should not be a criminal offense to safely cross the street. When expensive tickets and unnecessary confrontations with police impact only certain communities, it’s time to reconsider how we use our law enforcement resources and whether our jaywalking laws really do protect pedestrians,” said Ting. “Plus, we should be encouraging people to get out of their cars and walk for health and environmental reasons.”

AB 2147 is Ting’s second attempt to decriminalize jaywalking in California, as he pursues fairness in the way fines are assessed and prevention of potentially escalating police stops. Jaywalking is arbitrarily enforced throughout California, with tickets disproportionately given to people of color and lower-income individuals who cannot afford tickets that can often total hundreds of dollars. When the law goes into effect on January 1, 2023, fewer working families will struggle to pay the costly citation, and police would not be able to use jaywalking as a pretext to detain someone.

Lawyer Who Firebombed NYPD Car Blames ‘Unprocessed Trauma’ Prior to Sentencing

1664809174690.png

The lawyer who firebombed a New York City Police Department (NYPD) vehicle during a George Floyd riot claims she was suffering from “unprocessed trauma” at the time, the New York Post reported Saturday. Thirty-three-year-old Urooj Rahman faces 18 months to two years behind bars and hopes to have her sentence commuted to time served, the outlet said. Her lawyers claimed in a court filing Rahman had been drunk before she and lawyer Colinford Mattis torched the car in May 2020, the report continued: “Tossing the Molotov cocktail was a way of expressing anger at those police officers around the country for whom black lives did not matter,” her lawyers wrote to Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Brian M. Cogan. “It was an act of protest intended to avoid exposing others to harm.” Rahman’s lawyer rattled off a laundry list of excuses explaining her decision to chuck the explosive device. These included “early trauma” from being a Muslim in post-9/11 America; “abusive partnership relationships”; and “the injustices that she has witnessed here and abroad,” including assisting refugees in Istanbul and Athens and helping low-income tenants in New York avoid eviction.

In October last year, Rahman and Mattis pleaded guilty to one count of possessing or making a destructive device. “Prosecutors said Rahman threw a gasoline-filled bottle into an empty police car during a protest over the death of George Floyd in Minnesota. Rahman then fled the scene in a minivan driven by Mattis,” per Breitbart News.
