As spring approaches and lacrosse tryouts are soon to begin, who is looking dangerous in Region 4 this year. I know a lot of teams lost some key seniors, so who will step up for the perennial powerhouses of the region (IH, MOE, ST.X, SYC)?

Any Early predictions on who will be playing in the state semis come june?

Interesting 2009

This season should be very interesting to watch. Most of the top programs lost A LOT of talented seniors to graduation including nearly all the top scorers from Moe, IH, and Sycamore.

Bauer returns for Moe this year but will need to find some help to take pressure off and get him free. Sycamore lost their top 4 scorers so will have to find new offensive spark.

IH lost some key players but should return some scorers from last year.

St X could be in best shape for '09 mainly because they return majority of their defense and goalie. They also had some young offensive guys who got time and are returning (like Buczek). The overall size of their program probably gives them the best shot to fill holes. I'd look for them to repeat as R4 champs in '09 unless somebody else steps up big.

Just curious.. does anyone know where that really good face off guy from Sycamore last year went to college? Does he play there now?

Scrimmages

I know some of those big DI scrimmaged last week and I think they might have been over at St. X this week...what were the results of those?

X beat Moeller by 3-1 (not sure on score), then lost to Sycamore by 5-1, then Sycamore lost to Moeller 7-5 (after leading early); then X beat Worthington 5-4, and was tied with Columbus St. Charles 1-1 at half (when I left)-- all of this on Saturday... X got a lot of goals from a soph named Busick (sp?), who is apparently destined for stardom (dad played at Rutgers, so has some pedigree in the sport.

Apparently, everyone was just trying stuff out, and running pretty plain vanilla offense and defense.

St. Xavier beat Dublin Scioto 8-7 in Columbus Friday night

Where does Scioto rank in the pantheon of Columbus teams this year? I know that Worthington, UA, and, Kilbourne are usually better, but is that true this year as well? How much of a measuring stick is Scioto for X's state championship aspirations?

Also, what do you think (as an X parent, apparently) about the level/quality of coaching that X is getting at the varsity level? Are they getting the most out of their talent?

More a ruler than a yardstick

Scioto isn't a great measure for progress toward state championship. The road to state for Cinci almost always goes through UA, and UA is deathly afraid of Kilbourne this season who so far are dominating. Looking at the Columbus area this season, I wouldn't put Scioto in the top 5... stacking up more like:
#1 Kilbourne
#2 Arlington
#3 Jerome
#4 TW
#5+ Coffman, Scioto...

4/24 will be a great yardstick... until then, better to keep your eyes on getting out of R4 past IH, Moe and Sycamore...

Kilbourne will be the start of a seriously nasty run of opponents leading up to the end of the season, the Midwest tournament, and the Ohio state playoffs:

4/24/2009 7:30 PM Kilbourne Home
4/25/2009 3:00 PM Louisville St. Xavier Home
4/29/2009 7:30 PM Indian Hill Away
5/1/2009 7:30 PM Thomas Worthington Home
5/2/2009 5:00 PM Western Reserve Academy Away
5/6/2009 7:30 PM Sycamore Away
5/9/2009 7:30 PM Upper Arlington Away
5/13/2009 7:30 PM Moeller Away

With the possible exception of Lou. St. X, every one of those teams provides a very tough challenge. But, you can only prove yourself against the best!

no way is moeller top 4 this year, mason beat them, lost to indian hill by one, im not sayin city championship but watch out for them
