Crestview (Columbiana) 63 Campbell Memorial 00

Campbell lost to Lowellville last year in boys hoops. They also would have lost to Springfield twice if they played.
They lost to Lowellville early in the season. There is no guarantee they would have lost or beaten Springfield if they had played. Nobody has a crystal ball.

What crystal ball do you have to know they would have beaten Lowellville later in the year? Campbell had one good year. On average they wound be in the middle of the pack if they were in the other division. Springfield has had way more success than Campbell over the years. Those two teams need to make the switch. Springfield is tired of beating of the weak.

One thing I can agree with you on is a possible switch. Campbell played a very bad game vs. Lowellville. And one of the talented guards was not yet starting. Regarding how much more success Springfield has had over the years it depends on which years you are referring to. I just hope for the best for Campbell's fortunes in football. Right now, it does not look good, no matter which tier they are a member of.

Sad. Campbell was a charter member of the SVC and played in that league for 30 years or so.
Those were the days. I remember Steel Valley Conference games between Campbell-Austintown Fitch and Campbell-Ursuline at Memorial Stadium in 1971, with both games drawing 10,000 fans. Campbell had a few conference championships in the SVC before leaving the league for the MVC, where they had great success in the mid 1980's and early 1990's. Since then conference championships have been few and far between. The Red Devils have not made the football playoffs since 2010. Campbell has had numerous district championships and a few regional appearances in basketball, with one hoops state championship coming in 1993. And as oldschool red devil mentioned above, the baseball team won a state championship also in 1993.

And the Cleveland Browns have 8 football championships. Lets all live in the past. I'm voting for Jim Trafficant this November hoping he brings the steel mills back on Wilson Avenue.
Great point. Hopefully, Coach King can get these kids to believe in themselves. After a game like this, it's easy to "hang the season up." Hang in there Red Devils!

Nobody is living in the past. Did I not state the problems Campbell is up against in my previous post #15 on Sunday? That post is about three paragraphs long, coming from someone who has followed high school sports more than likely since you were in diapers. You didn't comment or recognize that post. I had stated the obvious reasons as to why the Campbell football program has been one of the worst in the area for years, and the numerous challenges it faces going forward. I even stated my doubts as to whether the football program could ever be respectful again, no matter which tier or conference the Red Devils are a member of. Those are facts. But you, and only you posted a comment on the past success and championships Campbell has had as if what happened in the past should mean nothing to Campbell people, as if those accomplishments do not count and should be white-washed as never happening. They may mean little or nothing whatsoever to you and some others, whom for whatever reason seem to carry a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to anything Campbell. I guarantee that those accomplishments mean everything to Campbell alumni, whether they happened 100 years ago or yesterday. It's about past tradition, community and school pride. Past championships are something that can never be taken away once they are won. It's something any school system and community should be proud of, no matter when they happened. And the current terrible situation matters too, more than you could ever know. You have no idea how bad some of we faithful followers of Campbell football feel. Believe me, and I can speak for every Campbell fan who posts on these forums......... we all agree on being very proud of past successes and tradition, and are very disgusted when it comes to the current failures.

You live in the past. I hate to break it to you but players today don't give a crap about what happen back in the day. Campbell needs a change to be competitive. Unfair to the players, school and community. Coach King is a good coach and has a good staff around him. They will never be successful if they continue to play their schedule year in and year out. Less and less kids will come out for sports. Any Campbell kid that is half way decent ends up leaving because the school is a city school anymore. You have to be out of your mind to send your kid to Campbell. I bet you most of those players on the "Championship Teams" back in the day moved out of Campbell and raised their kids in different districts. Most of you guys that are from Campbell on yappi probably moved out too. Why is that? Easy: Campbell is not a good place. They need a switch with Springfield. Springfield athletics in all programs are head and shoulders than Campbell. Make Campbell Great Again.

As much as your statement pains me, you are 100% correct. Swap out SL and Memorial. It is our only hope!

Were Campbell and Girard in the same conference back in ‘93? I ask because I think that Girard won a basketball state championship that year. That’s be something if they were.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. Quite an accomplishment for the conference, and they must have played each other twice in season. Like to see the scores of those games.
I don't know the exact scores but I'm pretty sure they split the two games. It was somewhere in the 73-67, maybe a little bit lower, vicinity in both games.

I may be wrong on this as I don't follow hoops as closely as football but I seem to remember that despite the fact that Girard & Campbell both won state titles, the league title was shared between Canfield & Girard. The MVC was very balanced that year.

Campbell and Girard split the MVC series in basketball in the 1993-94. Girard won 73-67 at Girard. Campbell won 71-69 at Campbell.
