Cleveland Guardians

Indians need starting pitching and Giminez deal was a good one at first glance. Yes ,hes an elite player i the field but he was basically an auto matic out alot of the reg season and in the playoffs . They have a plan and can easily replace him at the easiest position to play , 2nd base. They are shedding his salary which is huge . He was, really , overpaid with his current contract

The Indians should not re-sign Naylor either ,so I would trade him for pitching as well. Say what you will about Guardians front office but the good moves that have panned out for them are far more than the bad moves that didint ( unlike the Cleveland Clowns organization)

I like Gimenez. I wish the Guardians still had him. He's an elite fielder. However, let's not act like they've lost Robbie Alomar in his prime. At this juncture, he's a bottom third of the order bat.
And not likely to change for the better at this point in his career (the bat).

I didn't like the move but it's the reality of a market like Cleveland. I have faith in whatever plan they have.

Someone has to play defense.

Ozzie Smith wasn't known for his offense.

Antonetti is a clown. Just waved the white flag before spring training starts.

A bunch of no names for the best 2nd baseman in the league under control for 5 years? "Oh you just plug someone in at 2nd to replace him, it's easy"

You have to get a legitimate quality major league starter or two back in that deal. But when you have the cheapest owner in baseball this is what we get stuck with.

So, after marinating a day. We really needed to refill pitching. That killed us in October. I dont like the trade but I understand it after the 2nd trade

Yep. I doubt Gimenez will ever win you a postseason game, but Ortiz might. Worth the gamble, IMO, and worth getting rid of that bad contract. Now use the fuggin money on other players, don’t just pocket the savings.

Yes. A platinum glove 2nd baseman in his prime under control for another 5 years? You better get someone's 2 or 3 starter or a starter at another position. Not a couple of single A guys.
Ortiz isn't a A guy. He was in Pirates rotation

Well deserved, Tom. Congrats.

But today, it is baseball’s Hall of Fame that has made the call for Tom Hamilton.

The Guardians radio play-by-play man has been named the winner of the prestigious Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The honor is indicative of broadcasters who demonstrate “commitment to excellence, quality of broadcasting abilities, reverence within the game, popularity with fans, and recognition by peers.”

Check the DRS stats for Defensive Runs Saved. Giminez is great, #4 in the MLB, with 20 runs saved. The only 2B ahead of him is Turang from Milwaukee with 22. Lots of ordinary 2B fielders are in the 3-8 runs saved category.

The very best defensive players in the MLB, like Giminez, will save a 1 or 2 runs per month more than an average MLB fielder. A difference maker on offense is much more impactful on scoring and winning than defense.

I don't like the trade any more than you, but it is just math. Offense matters much more. Giminez is overpaid unless his bat really picks up.

Good post. The money simply doesn’t justify the player’s all around impact. It’s a good thing they found a taker for that bloated contract. Now they need to actually use that money to keep/acquire players.

YOu are clueless ...Giminez was an automatic out for most of the season and throughout the playoffs... you act like we traded away Robbie Alomar ... YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO HIT SOME .. a punch and judy barely >250 hitter who was about to go from 10 m a yr to 15 mil a yr on his 100million dollar contract was not cutting it ...Luis Ortiz can be slotted in right away as #3 or possibly #2 starter next yr .. do ur homework

We got no names. You need a legitimate veteran starter in that deal.
LIke who genius???? Ortiz in 2nd half of the yr was putting up numbers better than most of the "legitimate starters" you want so bad... Giminez cant hit .period . GREAT move by the Indians ... Everybody thought we were dead when we lost Lindor ..Relax.. Giminez is a 7th or 8th slot hitter . Hes not Roberto Alomar being traded away

Baseball is a game of run prevention. Teams that can pitch and field will be successful.

Ortiz will be back in AAA by June.

When we have 2nd basemen kicking the ball around and hits getting through due to their lack of range next year you'll understand why this is a terrible trade.

It was all about dumping salary by a cheap owner, not actually improving the team. Might as well say goodbye to Jose, another "bloated" contract.

You cannot disregard the numbers and facts that I showed you. Only pitchers and catchers have a big impact on run prevention.

An elite defensive 2B will save maybe 2 runs per month over an average defensive 2B. Facts. They need a better bat there when the payout is $10Million. If they find a 2B that can get on base more, drive in a few more runs, then it is a new positive.

He didint lead the majors in fielding pct and Jose isnt going anywhere . Ill take Gleybar Torres over Giminez right now and dont care if he makes twice as many errors . 2nd base is the easiest position on the filed ...Guardians will easily fill that spot . WE NEED STARTING PITCHING .Didi you watch the playoffs????????

As I recall, when Gimenez came the the Indians he came primarily as a shortstop. I anticipated he might eventually end up there. His defensive skills indicate he could have played there and I'd have preferred his .250 average at SS.
