Cleveland Browns 2025 Edition

That was just a contract negotiation ploy. Jackson got his $$$ and you haven’t heard a thing since. Garrett trade demand is completely different…..but if he is traded I would be shocked if he didn’t get an extension & more $$$.
I agree they will most likely trade him. But he is looking for an extension, as you say.

But it's not altogether crazy that he could also stay with Cleveland, since they have a couple years of control over him.

When it’s said that “it’s not about the $$$”, it is about the money. In Garrett’s defense, the Browns have stunk while he’s been there & wants to be on a contender where Jackson & Baltimore have been competitive/good his entire time.

On 97.1 The Fan this morning they were stating Garrett is pretty dug in and they felt he was the type of person that only made the trade request public after a lot of thought. The announcers were of the opinion Garrett has most likely played his last game as a Brown.

In the end, it doesn’t matter. Cleveland is looking like a 3 to 6 win type team for 2025. The Browns should just
* take the cap hit that is the Watson contract & cut him
* trade Garrett for 2nd this year & try to get a 1st for next year (this would be more appealing to teams)
* sign a retread QB to a modest 1 or 2 year deal to start the 2025 season
* draft either the Oregon, OSU or Mississippi QB in the 3rd round and sit then until their bye week. See if you get lucky & find a QB that can play.
* draft their future QB in the 2026 draft, assuming the guy from the 2025 draft didn’t work out.

How about, and Lord knows this would likely not work, the Browns offer a discount in a trade for Garrett if a team also takes on the Watson contract?

The Browns would still have a cap hit (from anll of the restructurings) annd any team taking Watson would have to fit his remaining contract $$$ under their team cap space.

The Browns did a trade similar to what your are referring to when the took on Brock Osweiller’s contract from the Texans and received some draft picks. But Osweuller’s remaining $$$ was nothing compared to Watson’s.

At some point the Browns front office has ti pay the piper for the terrible Watson contract. If Watson had played up to the level of the contract, it would be such a terrible deal. He didn’t and it will go down as one of the worse contracts in football.

The worst part of DW’s contract was they back loaded it so he would not lose money for the suspension … to me that was the biggest mistake

That contract is the gift that just keeps on giving and is now in part the reason that they may lose their best player.

True but to be fair, just about every team missed on Jackson. Jackson was the last pick of the 1st round in 2018.

Fyi. Browns took Baker with the 1st overall pick & the Steelers took S Terrell Edmunds with the 28th pick in the first.
my post was a joke.

Regardless of a Garrett trade, you could trade your one down a bit, and maybe pick up an additional second rounder. Then pick a QB there.
Not a fan of trading out of the top 5. I'd rather take the best chance on a generational talent than move back and hope for the best.

Nope. After his end of season meeting with Berry and Stefanski he said he was on board then he goes to the Pro Bowl and all of a sudden demands a trade.
The Browns were not surprised. Obviously he was trying to keep it out of public but thr front office idiots forced his hand. Myles isn't the problem

LOL . You think he ll be able to walk into that locker room again and look other players in the face? Hes gone . No way he plays another down for Cleveland .

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett spoke publicly Wednesday for the first time since announcing a trade request Monday, telling the "Rich Eisen Show" that he and the organization are not aligned on the team's future.

"It's not a decision I take lightly," said Garrett, speaking on Radio Row in New Orleans. "It took time and lots of conversation. Just looking at the trajectory of the team, talking to some of the higher-ups, I have a lot of respect for them, but I just don't think we're aligned on where the team is going in the near future."

Funny he was fine with where the team was going before the Pro Bowl...

After years of giving it everything he had, this year was the last straw and he finally publicly acknowledged what he knew to be true - the Browns as an organization haven't a clue as to how to build a winner. What other team would totally dismantle the offense after a playoff year and hire an o-line coach who would change the entire scheme which confused the players, or an offensive system that even the head coach didn't quite understand? How frustrating it must have been to him and the defense to see the inept offense run by the possessor of the most ridiculous contract in the history of football, which, time after time, failed to score as many points as a peewee team, meaning that the defense would constantly have to be on the field getting beaten up. And, when the fraud got injured, the team put in a turnover machine and DTR ( "We need to see how he will do"), when they knew full well that he was not the answer. All of this, and then the team said that there will be NO changes with those who made the disastrous decisions and who have demonstrated their incompetence time and again. Trade him and stockpile your 4th and 5th round choices, as you always do. Then, go ahead and abuse your players and the fans again...he has had enough. I support him and anyone else who wants to jump ship. Maybe that is what it will take for someone to listen.

After meeting with Berry and Stefanski he said he was satisfied and all in so someone got to him. Tampering allegations to come.
“We spoke after the season with the exit meeting and then spoke a few other times further down the line,” he said. “So this wasn’t something I blind-sided them with, in my opinion. I took some time before sending it outright to them and then I released this statement. I wanted to be able to do right by them because they’ve taken care of me for a long time. Cleveland has been my second home and this community is one that I love, but this opinion is how I feel now.”

Myles Garrett’s trade request could have effects that go beyond the football field. It could make it difficult for them to sign players in free agency.

That’s why former NFL player Dustin Fox believes it’s time for the Browns to pull the plug on Andrew Berry. Talking on the “Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show,” the renowned analyst claimed that the Browns have to get as much as they can get in return for Garrett and also fire Berry once and for all.

Dustin Fox- "renowned analyst"?????? LOL. I don't disagree with the sentiment, but "renowned analyst"?

Browns tight end David Njoku appeared at Super Bowl media row on Thursday with a clear goal in mind — to keep Myles Garrett in Cleveland. The talented pass-catcher pleaded with Garrett to see things through, saying the Browns are "close" to Super Bowl contention.

What's standing in their way? Njoku believes the Browns need a "healthy, good quarterback."
Not exactly subtle from Njoku.

Watson has generally felt the warmth and support of his teammates, but the Browns are collectively frustrated after such a miserable season. At a certain point, one needs to accept the reality of the situation. Watson cannot lead Cleveland where it wants to go.

However, it sure sounds like Deion has no issues with the Browns being the potential landing spot for his son:

"Sometimes we desire things that aren't right from us. Whether he goes 1, 2, or 3, he'll exceed all expectations. We weren't praying that he would go 1, we were praying that he would go in the first round. Now he allowed me to understand that he wants to top his daddy. His daddy was the fifth pick. He wants to go one through four."
