Cleveland Browns 2023 Edition

I said I didn't think it would happen, but you sound frightened that it will. Don't worry, your Steelers will still finish higher.

Hopkins will be 31 next week. He missed 6 games in 2021 and 8 games in 2022. Has Hopkins been a Top 5 wr over the last decade? Absolutely. Will he want $$$ equivalent to or close to top end NFL wr’s? Maybe/Probably. Over the next 1-3 years will Hopkins perform as a Top Tier wr or a guy who way paid more for past performance than current production?

If the Browns get Hopkins, Cleveland’s wr’s would still be a distance 2nd to the Bengals duo.

If Hopkins wanting $15 million from the Chiefs* was a problem, don't see him signing with the Browns.
He would be a great fit with Watson and definitely would make the Browns a lot better; but who you gonna cut that doesn't have a significant CAP savings

* Chiefs have a negative CAP problem now,

I hate agreeing with a Steelers fan, but you're not wrong. Hopkins has either been injured or suspended the last two years. He's likely not a number 1 anymore. On some teams he's more like a #3. He also knows his time is about done, which I assume is why he didn't want to stick around with Arizona. I could see him signing a team friendly deal with a legit contender, which Cleveland, sadly, is not.

offer him 4 Mill plus incentives...... to make 6 million if he reaches it.... otherwise, I'll pass!!

$4 mil + incentives for a potential $6 mil - That would be wasting Hopkins & the Browns time. Understand the economics of a #2 & #3 wr:

* Bengals 3rd wr Tyler Boyd will make $8.9 mil (cap hit of $10.3)
* Steelers 3rd wr Allen Robinson will make $5mil ($3.01 cap hit)
* Browns 2nd wr Donavon People’s-Jones will make $2.7 mil ($2.7 mil cap hit) in the 4th & final year of his rookie deal

Hopkins is still a Top 20 type of wr. If Hopkins takes a team friendly deal I would think somewhere around $8 to $9 mil base with incentives taking the total north of $10 mil. Hopkins could easily get $10+ mil base w/ incentives taking it to $15 mil.

what are his stats the last three years?

what are his stats the last three years?

Last 3 seasons, all w/ Arizona & Kyler Murray at qb. In 2022 I believe Hopkins played in 4 or 5 games without Murray who was injured.

2020: 16 games, 115 rec for 1,406 yards, 6 td’s
2021: 10 games, 42 rec, 572 yards, 8 td’s
2022: 6 games, 64 rec, 717 yards, 3 td’s

Dec 13,2021; Hopkins suffered a torn MCL missed the rest of the season and first 9 *games of 2022, came back for 6 games before he was shut down because of soreness in knee
his salary would have cost Arizona $19.5] this year.

Hopkins last year caught 25% of Murray's completions 259/390 for the entire year, even though he only played 6 games.

* included was a 6 game suspension that he wasn't healthy enough to play

It's a high risk/reward signing. He could really make a difference for a team that doesn't need to rely on him week in and out. I could see him being like OBJ with the Rams. He was great when he wasn't counted on to be the guy, but was really really good as a complimentary piece. It'll be interesting to see if he gets one more big contract or not. I'm voting not.

‘So your telling me there’s a chance’…..Hopkins may be in play for the Browns. Cleveland added almost $11 mil in cap space by declaring the release of Clowney & Johnson as post June 1st. Downside to this is I believe that pushes the cap hit out another year. Also, wr Amari Cooper had abdominal surgery but is expected to be fully recovered by the start of the season.

Hopkins will definitely be a Brown now:

“His reputation, it’s not great,” Esiason noted later, explaining a bit of the “rumblings” Giannotti was referring to when it comes to Hopkins. “Everybody knows that he’s a great athlete and a great player, but the work ethic and the commitment to practice and all that other stuff is really where the big question marks reside.”

Esiason concluded that maybe the lack of free agent demand so far will act as a little bit of a “wake-up call” for Hopkins.

I'd much rather have Cooper than Hopkins at this point.

Face it - lots of people suck these days. Criminals have targeted guys with money forever. Advice?
1. Be less conspicuous. Do you really need to take a Lambo or Bentley to the after hours club?
2. Stay out of harms way as much as possible. Maybe avoid the club altogether.

Denzel ranked the number 14 CB in the NFL by PFF. Apparently, durability is not a factor in their calculations. I'm not sure how they placed him 14th when they noted that he was 97th in overall defensive grading (56.8), 120th in tackling (36.7) and tied for 80th in coverage (60.4) among all CBs.

Again, I posted it on the day it happened...and I will post it again...John Dorsey totally blew the first round when he had picks 1 and 4, by taking two midgets.

Ranking Denzel Ward 80th in pass coverage for cornerbacks invalidates the entire list. That means there are on average 2.67 cornerbacks PER TEAM that are better than Denzel in coverage. That is total nonsense.

It makes complete sense (when we're trying to aggravate Brian).

I actually think 14 is about right.

A Ram Pickup is hardly a Lamborghini or Bentley

The Browns are intriguing this year. They really could go either way, boom or bust. There is enough talent in place to make a surprise Super Bowl appearance, like we’ve seen from other franchises who weren’t seen as obvious contenders in a given season. Of course, they are the expansion Browns, so there’s also the chance it all goes off the rails and results in yet another regime change and direction…while unfortunately keeping the same owners.

I really don’t know why, but I feel like this is going to be a surprise great season for the Browns, and I usually do not feel that vibe from the expansion Browns.

I will believe it if it happens. Until then, I remain unconvinced, since I, like all Browns fans, have been burned too many times. in the past.
I usually feel the same way, but for some reason that I can't explain...I see a great 2023 season ahead for the Browns. Maybe because we aren't expecting it?

Maybe you're right; our teams always do better when nothing is expected. Then they do well, expectations go sky high, and then they inevitably flop big time.
