Class of Central District

The Bears have the strongest incoming class in the state. Dominating performances by incoming Bear freshmen Grant Gooding and Grant Kennedy at JO last weekend. Gooding wins 100 & 200 Breast; 200 & 400 IM; and was just touched out in 50 & 100 Free. Meanwhile Kennedy wins 200 Fly, 200 Back, gets nosed out in the 100 Fly & 100 Back, and finishes number 2 to guess who in the 200 & 400 IM. Add these two to what's coming back for the Bears and lookout X the Bears are coming.

Correct X isn't looking over its shoulder. It does look like the Bears are climbing back toward the top of the Central District. They've stumbled the last couple of years with the rise of Dublin Jerome finishing out of the top 2. That could change this year. But there will be a lot of fast swimming this season and it looks like a strong freshman class. Jerome is still competitive. St. Charles has most of their team back as well. Not certain who either have coming in. UA will definitely be stronger with their incoming freshmen and what is returning. Expect a competitive team race at district. Would be nice to see those teams face off in season with duel meets. For some reason UA and St. Charles haven't faced each other the last few years in season. Anyway even with the improvements in the Central District, no team will compete with X.

X is a club team masquerading as a High School team. They have a ton of coaches and a nice on campus facility. They have more resources than just about any school in Ohio. Success breeds success so it attracts the best swimmers in SWO even as far north as Xenia. I really wish they could swim against the best high school teams in the country.

Its been awhile rjones! Where have you been the last few years as UA struggled. After 50+ years in the top 2 they dropped all the way to 4th a couple of years ago. And the once invincible girls have eked out the last two district titles. Not sure they can repeat this year. Nonetheless, you are correct that the incoming freshman class looks strong...best in the state may be a bit of an overstatement. But they may have the best in Central Ohio depending on where others go. Suffice to say the Bears are on the road back.

The UA boys and girls will win the Central District easily in 2020 and keep getting stronger as their program continues to dominate Central Ohio. The clock is ticking on the state title as well. The girls will reassert their dominance within a year and the boys will unseat X before these freshmen graduate. Meanwhile work continues on the new aquatics facilities within the new high school. Completion of those will ensure the continued dominance of the Bears. Enjoy watching UA return to the top!!!

You may be right rjones that UA boys and girls will sweep the district titles this year, but it won't be easily. Both SC and Jerome will be competitive in the boys and New Albany and Coffman will challenge on the girls side. Not sure anyone will dominate. I suspect that the spread for both the girls and the boys will be under 50 points from first to third. On the boys side UA should win the free relays, but I don't think they can top SC in the medley. Individually it will be a crap shoot. UA's dominance of the 500 is gone but they will be stronger in the strokes than in the past. On the girls side the relays will be competitive. At this point not certain anyone will win more than one. At the state level I don't see UA challenging X in the next four years. Indeed, I'm not certain a Central District team can challenge for the top 5 on the boys side and only in the top 5 for girls. While the Central District has gotten faster, so has the rest of the state. In team scoring the power remains in the SW.

Glad to see swimfan that you recognize the inevitable. You may quibble about the margin but not the result! UA sweeps the titles.

LMAO...Sycamore couldn't take down X last year with the #1 ranked senior and the #1 ranked junior in the country, and they had a Trials qualifier in Froass to boot. Sycamore won half the individual events and two-thirds of the relays, yet only managed a distant second. A team needs a minimum of six swimmers who can score top eight to contend for state.

It is all about the numbers of swimmers. Sycamore only had about had about 8 swimmers qualify. X maybe 13 or 14. X has so many more swimming resources than anybody in the state of Ohio, it is silly. I wish they could swim against Boles, The Diablos in California, and the teams in Texas. That would really give them more competition.

Upper Arlington will win the Ned Reeb easily this Saturday. Their opening weekend they put up incredibly fast times for the beginning of the season. The freshman are faster than advertised. Guess deBear is showing his magic touch. Voss looks like the likely state champ in the sprints. Meyer may win the breast. The relays are smokin fast. X used to come to the Ned Reeb. Guess they decided not to tangle with the Bears this early in the season. Too bad, it would have been a preview of the state meet.

As usual rjones you have overstated the case for UA. X hasn't been to the Ned Reeb for a couple of years. Their absence has nothing to do with UA and if they came they would dominate as the did each year that they did come. Nonetheless, you are correct that UA looks very strong and will likely win the Ned Reeb. They come out on top by a wide margin scoring the meet based upon the psych sheets. Although those times can be deceiving as many teams use their rested times for entry purposes. UA's freshman class is the strongest we've seen for a Central District team in a number of years. It will be interesting to see them develop.

looks like a few kids missing because of jrs...a couple new albany kids, list from sc, some new albany girls as well, still should be a great early season meet...all the coffman kids are at makos and/or juniors as well...

I want some of whatever you’re taking my man! Maybe we could meet up at State & share? Hahahaha...

Chaney, Voss, Chaney, Voss, Chaney, Voss. Not sure who I’d pick in the sprints. And based on the times I’m seeing, UA varsity would have finished third at X’s intrasquad meet. On the serious side, keep an eye on Aaron Sequeira. Legit 2free, 100 back threat.

What’s the status of UA new pool
word is it will be opening in july or august of 2021, it will be 25 meters x 25 yards like mason or dublin, 11 lanes when run short course, i have heard they will be hoping to host water polo states there once it opens, as well as their traditional meets, there were pictures of it set out at the golden bear uasc meet in november, looks great!

Cool, do you happen to have a rendering available? Are they keeping the old pool?

UA dominated the Ned Reeb! The freshmen and team as a whole are better than advertised. To all you naysayers and X devotees look at the top 24 times in the state if you doubt the Bears are for real. UA tops X in all events but one. They are tops in the state in the 50, 100, 200 free and 1,2 in breast. They have the top times in the 200 & 400 Relays (swimmeet.com posted their prelim time from the Ned Reeb instead of the meet winning final time) and are number 2 in the Medley. Their lowest placing events are back and fly where their top swimmer is number 6 in the state. They have 26 swims in the top 24 in the state to X's 23 and they score higher in nearly every event than X. X doesn't need to watch out for the Bears they need to try and catch up! The Bears are easily the top team in the state. It's no longer a question of how much they win the district by, but how badly they beat X in the state meet!!! And keep in mind all of UA's times are in-season not rested ones like many others are.

You are delusional. All of X's main swimmers just got from junior Nats or the open or whatever pro series they swim in. Just look at X's roster and start looking at the times in USA swimming. X's wins some mythical national championship every year. It is not changing anytime soon.

St X will win states by a huge margin rjones is nothing more then a jackass, 2nd place might be interesting...Sycamore (if Foster swims), Mason, UA, not sure St. Francis without Ireland or St. Iggy have enough depth

What is up with Ireland? STF graduated a lot last year so even with Ireland they most likely will score less at state meet this year than last.

I suggest avoiding swimmeet.com. That guy has turned into a shill for Mason. Use MeetMobile instead. Having said that...

I love this guy!

Foster going to Texas in 2 weeks. No high school swimming. Very nice guy by the way.
