CHL 2024/2025 preview/season thread

Taylor's defense played great but Mariemont's offense is truly horrible. They've scored 16 total points (all against Finneytown) in the 4 games since their QB got hurt.
Seems like that's a theme in MM.

Same was true when Tully was at QB. If they had him on the field they were decent. But when he missed the past few years they were horrible.

Can't go unsaid Taylor matches their win total from last season (4) w/ 3 winnable games ahead of them.

Readings offense always gives us fits. And Madeira has been airing it out. So they need a good wk 8 and 9 for sure.

Question is If Taylor can finish w/6-7 wins does dransman win COY?

Everyone knew IH/Wyoming were going to be battling for a CHL title but Taylor possible 3rd place would be big for the program.

for COY Dransman needs a W versus IH or Wyoming. beating up on the terrible teams in the CHL not worthy of it. If taylor beats IH, he'd have my vote. you just need a real win

The offense has been suspect since they got a new coach a few years ago. Charlie Tully was the only thing keeping them in games last year.

Taylor's having a good year by their standards (which has been pretty low since about 2014), but I wonder what they'd look like if guys like McFarland and Branch never transfer in? Basketball-wise, add in Wentz, Dean and Henline to that list. Of course, focusing on ifs, ands or buts is worthless; was just an odd year in that 22/23 school year to see quite the handful of athletes transfer in at once. Especially since it's not a school that typically gets a lot of transfers

Where did McFarland come from?

Once again, I think the Taylor fans here are going to think I'm anti-Taylor, but this is part of the reason that I'm not real sold on the Dransman COY talk.

Taylor has some real talent on their team (some of which that open-enrolled, which is fine). They have the best player not named Devlan Daniel. They have some actual size on their team, something that much of the CHL lacks. And last I checked, they have the highest enrollment in the CHL. Taylor should be finishing in the top half of the CHL and I'm not so sure of the underdog role that some see for them.

The days of Taylor being that "school in the sticks" with no athletes and serving as every school's homecoming game are long gone.

There's no excuse for them not to be a top 3-4 team in the league every season from this point onwards.

We def have atleast 1 down class (current 8th graders) in bball and football.

Won't be as noticeable in bball (other than freshmen team next season)

Football MS is ok.... not alot of athletes.

Our 6th grade class at all 3 big boys sports are really good. Baseball may be the sport they are best at followed by basketball then football. They just have a TON of athletes. 1-2 of the kids may end up at elder. But when they hit MS next year they will make some noise in the CHL.

TAYLOR HYPE TRAIN GETTING ROLLIN EARLY!!!! Seems like the hype-train guys are always talking about the magic class that never seems to come.

then they would play w/ their Taylor kids and it would be what it is.....

For 10+ years we have had an influx of Oakhill's kids. 2x CHL baseball POY Jake Hughes was an Oakhills kid originally, his freshmen year he open enrolled and then mom and dad moved into the district.
that same 4 year stretch CJ Riga (pitcher for baseball) was a Colerain kid. We have had 2-3 soccer kids 1 from Harrison and 1 from Colerain in that stretch as well.

there have been MANY years kids are denied OE b/c the # in each class is too high. Mcfarland's little brother being one of them. he was denied last year as a freshmen b/c the 2027 class was at its cap.

after seeing McFarland's catch , thought id do some digging on the CHL page.

He is getting to be in pretty "elite" territory in the CHL.

the last 2 2000+ yds career receiver's are

Ted Bolser IH 150 catches 2189yds 26 TD

Jon Tighe Wyoming 109 catches 2119 yds 21 TD

McFarland through wk 6 of his Junior year 104 catches 2186yds 26 TD

Obviously the CHL site stops at 2006 but I wonder if there has ever been a 3000+ yd guy?

Stewart won it in 2019 (lost to both Wyoming and IH )
Calvin Johnson in 2018 (lost to Madeira , Wyoming and IH)

So CHL has def voted in that way.

Week 7 in the CHL!
(week 6 was pretty easy to call, only one that stood out was taylor/MM being as close as it was but taylor had a weird week and i think that DEF played into it)

Wyoming vs DP- Joel left Joel right , Dupee down the side line here or there. Cowboys win 34-12

Madeira vs MM - MM offense may be worst in the CHL. Braeden Wallace may be injured (did not play vs IH?) could make it tough for Madeira to get the ball to Hopewell. I'll still take Madeira in a close one 17-6. madeira has lost 4 straight and MM has been shutout in 3 of their last 4 games.

IH vs Reading- Devlan left Devlan right. He has rushed for 480 and 10 TD in the past 2 weeks. Reading coming off a Shutout L to wyoming. Tough 2 wk stretch for the Blue Devils. IH 42- Reading 12

Taylor vs FT- Running clock in this one. Taylor over FT 44-0

**if the playoffs started today**

Wyoming would host Fenwick

IH would host Brookville

Taylor would travel to Shroder

Reading OUT

Madeira would travel to Versailles

MM out
FT out

DP would travel to Rock hill (2.5 hr drive 1 way!)

What are the chances that Mariemont does not have a football program in five years?
They'll have a team but as I've stated before, kids don't grow up in Mariemont wanting to play football. Lacrosse has taken over as the primary sport in that community and majority of their top male athletes aren't opting to play both in HS. They will be relegated to the bottom 3 (maybe just the bottom depending on what happens w/ FT and DP after this year) on a yearly basis.
