Cavs 2023-24

Uunfortunately this is starting to feel like some things never change, turn the calendar to the new year part of the season, add in the injuries and tougher schedule. Rinse repeat. There have been some inexcusable losses in the last week or so

Funny, in one year they went from no offense to no defense. Right now they are 12th in the NBA in defense rating.

Houston is an up and coming team but you can't let them shoot 55% from the field and 46% from 3. Garland and MItchell showed up on offense but that rest of the team was pretty worthless. When Niang is your third leading scorer that's an issue.

Jeff Phelps cited and interesting stat: in the last three games ( all losses) half the shots were taken either by Mitchell or Garland, unlike when they were playing very well, which shows that the ball is not moving around. But, of course, it's the lack of defense that has caused the recent losses. Defense is a matter of will and the Cavs haven't had it.

Mobley being out hurt the flow. Allen just gets his shots mostly on rebound, tips and the occasional pass for a dunk.

They're supposed to beat .500 teams, especially at home. While it's nice to get back in the win column, I'm not going to get any more excited with the win than I would be disappointed by a loss to a good team.

Let's get to the All-Star break without injuries, get in some rest and come back strong for the rest of the season.

Would you do it?

The Trade

Cavaliers receive…

  • Kevin Durant
Suns receive…

  • Jarrett Allen
  • Caris LeVert (expiring contract)
  • Isaac Okoro
  • 2031 first-round pick

I'm also a no vote. Durant is great (was great?) but the Cavs do not need another scorer who needs the ball. And the Cavs do not need to disrupt the current chemistry.

More than anything else, the Cavs could use one more big banger guy for when Allen is resting.

Need superstar game from ty jerome tonight.Cant win in Miami let see how good he does in garland minutes.Darius need rest lol.

Tonight’s game will be a test. The Cavs typically wilt against the Heat.

Garland has played in every game but one. I don't begrudge him getting a rest especially given his injury history. These teams also have physicians and trainers who time this stuff out and it's often not something the player requests.

Atkinson out here tanking games. Cavs traditionally struggle in Miami, a number of rotation guys out, crapped the bed in 5 of the last 9 games...I know let's rest Garland.

Solid take.

Cavs have 3 games in 4 days, 6 games in 9 days. You have a a 5.5 game lead in the East for the 1 seed. It is 100% a good idea to give guys who have been grinding every game a night off in January. May and June is what's important here. I hope he gives Mitchell and Allen a night off in this stretch too. Mobley had a week off recently due to injury.

Anyone questioning Atkinson at this point needs to get a clue.

Jerome has been great but there are at least a handful of guys ahead of him in the 6th man of the year race, guys like Pritchard, Thompson, Westbrook, Hunter and Kuminga.

They are paid to play, they want to watch buy a ticket. You want to rest reduce the minutes, 20-25 rather than 35-40. Winning and momentum is whats important, the number 1 seed is what's important. Mahomes doesn't get a Thursday night game off in week 10 because "it's been a grind". Ripken didn't take a day off because "it was a grind"

Holding healthy players out of a game will always be a joke. The NBA agrees with me.

Hmmmm. Interesting choice of comparison. 17 games vs. 82. Oh, and Mahomes (and Kelce, and a bunch of other NFL players) "rested" the last game once their position was locked up. LOL.

None of us know if Garland (or any other player) has a nagging thing with a toe, ankle, etc. Maybe just relax. Atkinson is not "tanking" as you claim. He clearly knows what he is doing, and oh by the way, Cavs won by 20.

It's a widely accepted policy that many NFL vets get Wednesday off.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like any of it. The NBA has allowed the players to essentially run the shop. This is another example.
