Cavs 2023-24

This year, the Cavs are averaging 123 points per game and gave up 111 points per game. Last year they averaged 112 while giving up 110. The only real addition was Atkinson.

The BS begins. Mitchell missing todays game for rest. Not even a back to back scenario. A whopping 15 games into the season. Already down another starter (Mobley likely out with illness) Not like you are in the middle of a historic run or anything.

Probably can beat the Hornets even without Mitchell. I’d rather have him rested going into the matchup with Boston.

Can’t do much about Mobley if he’s sick. Illness can’t be avoided.

Do I like these maintenance days? No.
Do I have any inside knowledge about Mitchell maybe tweaking an ankle or having a muscle pull? No.
But...
Are the Cavs going 82-0? No.
Can they beat Charlotte without him? Very possibly yes.

I'm fine if the Cavs play the long game and keep him rested and healthy. Keep an eye on the spring and summer.

He just turned 28. If he needs rest with a day off on either side of the game something is wrong. Of course you can't do anything about a legitimate excuse. If they came out and said Mitchell had a knee contusion or something that would be one thing. He just needs a breather? Already likely being down one starter isn't time to take a day off, it's time to step up.

Again they are in the midst of history here. If they are 10-4 do whatever you want. It's almost as if Atkinson hopes they lose to get the pressure of the streak off their back before Boston.

I thought I was getting ahead of myself when I was thinking "Cavs might be 15-0 when they go to Boston next Tuesday." ...
First time in my long life I have a November NBA game that is must watch TV. Cavs @ Boston should be fun. Cavs lead the league with 123.7 points per game, Celtics are 2nd with 121.6 points per game. Cavs lead the league making 41.9% of 3 pointers (37 attempts per game), Celtics only make 37% but lead the league attempting 51 3 pointers per game. 51 !!

Of course, this game will have a playoff intensity, so it may be a little lower scoring, but it will be fun.
