Canton McKinley Football 2024

Disagree. McKinley was a national championship program in the late 90s well after the city of Canton peaked economically. Then within 5 years of joining the Fed they had fallen entirely out of relevance, not only nationally, or within OH D1, but even within their own region. This was well before Moore elevated Massillon's program to what it has become over the last decade.
I've been vilified for this exact take by everyone in the Fed. I do believe joining the Fed was the beginning of the end for McKinley.

That’s interesting, there are other schools in weak leagues that have traditionally strong programs. Colerain’s league wasn’t overwhelmingly strong when Bolden and Coombs had them humming. It’s strange that McK with everything you mentioned has fallen so hard, although I’m sure you couldn’t care less 😭
Also incorrect. A stronger Bulldog program would only benefit Massillon.

You guys honestly should’ve kept Ron Johnson and let him build what he wanted to build. You’d be a player in d1 every year.
Yeah. Ok. New member. Stop trying to make McKinley look back. We are moving forward. It’s time for us to get an elite coach. I believe most of us McKinley fans are in agreement about that. We want change and to move forward.

It’s time for McKinley to be together and be on one accord. We are stronger together. No divisions needed. We all need each other.

You can have all the "Jimmie and Joes" in Stark County, if those kids aren't coachable....then you have a problem. Combine uncoachable kids with a coach who doesn't appear to stress discipline or hold kids accountable....then you have a HUGE problem. I remember a Massillon vs McKinley freshmen game several years back when one of the freshmen players from McKinley squared up and wanted to fight a Massillon coach after a play on our sideline. Then there was the whole post game "incident" after last year's game where McKinley players were not only fighting Massillon players....but their own coaches. How many posts have we read on here over the last couple of years about a certain McKinley RB fighting with teammates? I think it's a culture thing over there.
pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffftttt . Kids sometimes get fired up. Dont over blow . Massillon and Mckinley are bitter rivals and after this yr Massillon will be back to solid team not very good . Mck wins the game next yr.Good luck with Big Nut in the Final *?!?!?!?! what a joke . Youd be playng a rematch with Ed s if u all were D1 . Scaepgoats

Kids need held accountable for their actions, this is how you got in this mess.
. Massillon and Mckinley are bitter rivals
Really? Didn't know.
and after this yr Massillon will be back to solid team not very good .
So is it just a "solid team"....or "not very good?" Because I just may agree with you on one of those.
Mck wins the game next yr.
One out of ten ain't bad....lol. Actually, the way things are going, McKinley beating Massillon 1 out of every 10 years is unacceptable....for Massillon.
Good luck with Big Nut in the Final
Thank you very much.

This kind of mentality is why McKinley went down the tubes. No accountability, "watch what we'll do next year" and then no results. Easy to be the struggling rapper who's one big break away from being famous. We all went to school with one. They're all still living in their parent's basement and working at Wendy's.

FWIW, the last time Massillon played Eds in the D1 playoffs, they beat them. They're 5-4 all time vs St Edward and Massillon has actually scheduled big name public and private schools and beat them in the regular season over the past decade. Who has McKinley beat outside the Fed in the past decade???

I bet Harding this season may be the best OOC win.

Just as students do NOT teach themselves in a classroom, athletes do NOT teach themselves how to play football. NOR, do football athletes teach playing fundamentals, set practice routines, prepare a game plan, make in-game adjustments, implement time management, set the formations, call the next plays, decide game starters, hold players accountable, and do 1,001 other things.

THEREFORE, even IF, as you say that Massillon is "not very good" next year, Massillon's superior coaching staff will STILL KICK OUR BUTTS unless McKinley NOW fires our Head Coach of FOUR YEARS!

And, the sooner, the better! Good luck to all of us, sam

Interesting analysis. Are you sure kdiamond being a McKinley fan? By the way, the Tigers record with St. Edward is 6-4.😀

Massillon is going to be very good next season. Haven’t you heard about their amazing Soph class?

Many (close to all) coaches that have left McKinley have found success.

The city treats its coaches terrible…. They leave/get run out/etc. go on to be successful.

Reardon, Cross, Davis (girls hoops) Hairston (boys hoops) all moved on to normal places and won big.

Hell, even Thom bounced for Warren.

Toxic community and parent/families

maybe this year was legit coaching issues but the city as a whole has created a climate where NO ONE wants these jobs.

Just look at the last few applicant lists of major sports.

Hey Coach V why don’t u move on and stop crying. What programs have offered for you. None. You and Bowden had your chances. Change is good. McKinley is moving forward.

I am not posting on this thread to join those who enjoy bashing and stating nasty negativities about Canton McKinley and the city of Canton. To voice concerns about Antonio Hall, yes. To express hope that the Bulldogs can get back on track, yes. However, to not overstate the obvious, but it's always about leadership from my perspective. Everything rises and falls on Leadership. Doesn't matter if it is about the mayor of a city, a senior military officer, an executive of a business corporation, or the head coach of a sports program. Leadership matters! The next head football coach of Canton McKinley, along with bringing a stronger grasp of game prep, the Xs and Os, in game adjustment skills, etc., must be a strong leader. Although Antonio Hall might be a nice guy who loves McKinley, he has demonstrated that he lacks the necessary leadership skills to even have a hope of turning around the football program. It's already been mentioned several times in this thread, the Bulldogs' lack of discipline, the lack of fundamentals, the lack of togetherness and teamwork have become a cultural nightmare within the program. From my knowledge of the program, at least the past few years, Hall lost the locker room last year, (2023), when he didn't kick off the team notorious troublemakers, who wouldn't participate by the rules and who were constant distractions and created divisiveness on the team. Why didn't he? Because he doesn't have the inner strength and leadership qualities to undertake the steps to bring about appropriate structure, vision and discipline for the program. High school football, generally speaking, is much better Ohio wide, when the Canton McKinley football program demonstrates consistent success, which goes beyond just the won-lost column. Maybe then the general public will become less critical and more supportive.

It’s time for us to get an elite coach.
Who? From where? What's the sales pitch that would entice an elite coach to roll up his sleeves and rebuild McKinley when he could have the same (or greater) success elsewhere more quickly and more easily?

Haven’t heard that name in a while. I remember when he was hired at Westlake and was hyped up as the next Paul Brown and was going to outcoach all the locals. One of the most overrated coaches of all time when it comes to wins and losses. He might be great with the kids, but it hasn’t resulted in much sustained winning anywhere.

Sales pitch? A nice figure north of 6 figures, head coach only job and throw in public school pension for any private school head coach. He can hire his own staff. The facilities are IMO the best in Ohio except for maybe Massillons and I don't know maybe even better then Massillons. Just give me one adult that knows how to put that package together. Identify 5 names and personally call them yourself. I get facebook updates on CCS stuff and it seems like their replacing schools and building athletic buildings everywhere so it not like we are talking about Cleveland City schools here. Who? I would have the Wadsworth coach on that list. He's the son of Danny Todd that played for Newlon at Lincoln during the 60's and for all I know maybe still has family in canton. As crazy as it sounds I would give the Hoban coach a call. He knows more about McKinley then people think and Adrian Brown is on his staff and who know's if he loses again this year that would make what 3 in a row without a state championship. Who know's when that clock goes off and coach want a change. Maybe Moore? Maybe somebody ticks him off in Massillon. You guys do have a tendency to do that you know. Just look at you?😁 And some of the stupid posters from Massillon that come after you from time to time. None of those listed so far would even have to move.

What's your sales pitch to the BOE to approve all of that? 6 figures for a coach with no other responsibilities? Multiple hires into created positions? A pension plan that somehow ignores service requirements? And all of that wrapped around a demographic/administrative model that is the very antithesis of success.

Sell me.

A leader that knows how to get that stuff through. My god you act like no other school system including Massillons have no issues at all. Are you saying Massillons team picture doesn't look like McKinley's in any way.

In My Opinion, the answer to your question of "WHO" is: "IT DEPENDS".

Let me give you two choices:

#1 - a job which has little risk... currently runs smoothly... very efficient operation ... little room for improvement... you just walk in and all is great... the pay is small to match the low risk.

#2 - a job which resembles the Wild West... nothing runs well... all is a mess... just a shambles... but the pay is greater because the risk is higher.

Personally, I prefer option #2... I want to go where the rewards are higher... where I can make an immediate impact... where the success is MINE alone... I do not want to take over a job where people will say that the "previous manager" left an easy situation for me to walk into. The successful candidate would have that same outlook.

To answer from "WHERE", I personally would look to the ranks of College Assistant Coaches, or look to successful High School Head Coaches who want to move up from the lower football divisions.

It wasn't that long ago that McKinley opened a search for head coach and received about 100 responses. The search committee then narrowed the list to a handful of names and passed the resumes up to the school administration. The superintendent then pitched the list away, and made an offer to his own private choice. (And, that is a story for another time!)

In summary, all one has to do is not be afraid of hard work. People are out there who would want the job of McKinley Head Coach.

Good luck to all, sam

Mentor takes this one by 3 scores. There rushing attack is too lethal by averaging 7 YPC running behind two d1 lineman and there passing attack is even better having a d1 QB and two D1 recievers

The bulldogs unfortuantly will not be able to keep up with this offense if it ever turned into a shootout.
Where is QB going?
