Canfield @ South Range 2023

As an outsider and a fan of what both programs were able to accomplish in 2022 (both state champions), I'm really looking forward to this Week 2 matchup. Hard to believe it's happening in this day and age - glad both coaches and AD's were willing to do it.

Two great staffs, rosters, styles, and communities..... Only guy who could possibly get in the way of this one is Mike Pavlansky.

Thoughts on score? Or any comments on 2023 schedules.

It’ll be close with all offseason because neither team changes up scheme, but I think Canfield will have too much in the second half, especially early in the season with SR having basically all new starters

A little weird to me with the 16-team playoff format. I dunno. It's a 10-minute bus ride. It's against a solid team that will get you solid computer points. It'll be the marquee game of the week -- maybe entire OoC -- in the area. Lots of upside. Maybe Canfield doesn't want to "play down"?

Eh, whatever. Folks on here seemed to think this was a real possibility the moment it was signed. Kudos to their prescience. Now SR has to scramble up an opponent -- that's the biggest bummer. If they had someone like, say, Mogadore waiting in the wings, then so be it. That's still a nice game. But they'll probably end up with either a bye, a massive bus trip or a steaming pile of crap game.

Positive side is Canfield cut a decent check to get out of the two games.

but anyone who knows Pavlansky isn’t surprised. He was whining from the minute he heard this.

IIRC, Dalton is still open for week 2. However, the Bulldogs might not be interested since they're opening with Kirtland and playing Mogadore in week 3.

Hopefully, SR can dig up an opponent this weekend down at the OHSFCA clinic.

I always thought the AD'S were too get games scheduled. Guess at Canfield we try to pick only teams coach knows he can beat or go out of town

Ive really tried to think of some kind of rational reason of why Canfield would back out and really can’t. It’s not like they are getting a home game now, they are traveling much farther away. And it’s not like Mansfield is a push over easy win, they have a solid program. Its such a disservice for the kids and community, as that game would’ve been a packed house and I’m sure a game the players would have loved to play.

Coach Dial is just crazy enough to do this. Kirtland / SR / Mogadore is a crazy gauntlet for sure, but with what might be the best Bulldog team in the last decade coming back, that would be a heck of battle scar come playoff time.

Pickings are getting slim, I could totally see this happening. Would need to be @ SR though, Kirtland and Moggy are both @ Dalton this season, and that would be an even taller order in 2024 w/ all three away.
