Big 8 and Viking Invitational

What teams are going to Canton this Friday for the Big 8 meet? St. Francis returns to this meet after a long stretch of not attending this meet. Then they swim in Cleveland the next day at what looks to be a very fast meet. Any particulars to look for at either meet?

boys lineup:
st x
st francis
ua
university school
centerville
granville
moeller
beavercreek

best lineup in years my prediction:
x, francis, moeller, ua, us, granville, centerville, beavercreek

You can make an argument that the meet to watch Saturday is the Canton invite rather than the Viking invite based on the Psych sheets

Both meets are going to be fast, but the interesting aspect of the Viking is the out of state swimmers. It will be interesting to see if Moeller can hang with X. Friday it will be interesting on the team scores due to the fact that X will not be able to beat other teams with numbers, as they will only have 2 swimmers per event. Lastly, teams are still using state meet times, so the psych sheets are a little misleading. After this weekend, a much more clearer picture will be attained.

Not sure I agree that this is the best lineup in years. The bottom 2 - arguably 3 do not belong. X will win easily. Not sure other teams can put together 2 quality relays. As always the first heat will be fast, but second heat will not be. My prediction:
X, StF, Moeller, US, UA, Centerville, Granville, Beavercreek

Not sure how X wins easily. They will not have their usual advantage of numbers, so this meet will be a whole lot closer than all of the other meets. St. Francis will put out 3 quality relays.

buckeyedr, not sure you understood my statement. Each team has an A & B relay in each of the relay events. It looks to me that X is the only team that will field quality B relays in all 3 relay events. That traditionally has been the source of significant points for X. Yes StF will have 3 quality A relays that may win the event, but just as X often does at the state meet their B relays will place highly enough to give them the point edge in each relay event. Their formula is the same year in and year out. Both relays will place in the top 8 and generally in the individual events both their swimmers will finish in the top 8. No one else can match that. That's why I say that X will win easily. I think X has won the last 11 or 12 Big 8s in a row. The last one they lost in my memory is to Firestone around 2000. That said I wish all teams well and hopefully all will have fast swims. Although nothing is on swimmeet.com, I assume at least the results will be posted.

I believe university beat them in 2010 actually, but you are correct, other then that year almost always they have won by 30 points plus, i actually think moeller will beat sf because they are a little deeper across their board with b swimmers, x wins again though by 30 plus points

Keep an eye out for Matt Slabe this weekend. He's already gone 1:45.3 in the 200 and 4:43 in the 500! Keep in mind his best times are 1:43 and 4:38 in those events. If Slabe is able to continue improving at a rapid like this than it will be nightmare for Moe and St. F.

I was not aware of each team having two relays. I was only thinking that each school would put out one relay. I understand what you are saying now. University was awesome that year-2010. They came to St. Francis for a meet against St. F, St. X, and Saline, Michigan, who had won the state the year before. University kicked everybody's backside that day and it was not even close.

It is going to be an exciting weekend to say the least.

Can anyone that was at Viking give an idea of which teams were wearing fast suits and/or bullet caps? There were definitely some fast times from some smaller teams and I assumed that teams such as St. Francis went with their team suit/no cap combo

St. Francis wore their Knights caps which are not the hard silicone caps and they wore their normal speedo briefs. They were not tapered. I believe most if not all of St. I wore their normal silicone caps and did not suit up. Hudson looked to have some in fast suits and some not. Most of the other teams wore fast suits. I imagine most were rested and tapered, especially Jack Boyd from New York who went 1:39 and 4:29 in the 200 and 500. St. Francis is experimenting with the 3 relays, but they threw down the gauntlet in both the medley and 200 free relays over the weekend. Individually, they proved to have a few swimmers capable of fighting for some individual titles in Canton.

Hudson boys were not rested and no one wore fast suits. And the 200/500 kid from New York was super impressive
