And the Decline of the Pittsburgh Steelers Has Begun

They may have a down yea, but the Steelers are one of the best orginizations in sports. They will be fine. Great owner, great coach, great starting QB. They are fine.

Did you just say great coach? Oh! What a hoot! If greatness is determined by inheriting a Super Bowl contending team, then by God, I guess you're right.

Are people really trying to argue that Hines Ward leaving will hurt the Steelers?

I'll agree that it's the end of an "era" I guess, but if the organization starts to decline it certainly won't be because of Hines Ward leaving.

Recently, are you going to read the thread, or pontificate on the name of the thread alone? It's been stated by myself on here that it's more of a symbolizing event of their decline. And decline they will.

ummmm, he became the coach of a team that had gone 8-8 the year before and didn't make the playoffs, so nice try on that one, Chazz.

he's been the Steelers coach for 5 years now. he's made the playoffs every year but one. been to the Super Bowl twice, won it once. his overall record is 54-26 (regular season), 6-3 (playoff record). you don't get that success just because you "inherit talent". you have to be able to "coach them up" the right way and get them to play the game the right way.

there's been plenty of "bad" coaches who couldn't get highly talented teams to be successful. Tomlin knows how to do get talented guys to play the style of football that he wants them to play. he would be an average coach if he had the talent that he's had and been to the playoffs once or twice.

it's not like Tomlin was hired and said "alright, boys. just go out there and play and i'll see you on Sunday. i hope you're ready to play."

once again, you are still the joke of Yappi with your spewing of Steeler hatred/jealousy.

well, if it's stated by Chazz on here, then SO BE IT.

the release of Ward doesn't symbolize anything, except maybe the declline of Ward himself. that, in no way, symbolizes any decline of the Steelers at all.

So you're saying that the Steelers will be a perpetual Super Bowl contender every year?

I read many sports forums and some Steeler fans seem to think that they are above having a mediocre (or heaven forbid a losing) season.

James Farrior, was among 3 more that got the axe. I hope to God they franchise Wallace so a team like San Francisco can front load a big contract and swipe him away. I'd say Mike Wallace is worth a late 1st round pick, wouldn't you?

I'm talking about depth on the defense. They drafted a couple of D-Linemen that aren't very special. I'll agree that Timmons & Woodley were nice pickups on the defense but there's no "impact" guy to replace Hampton or Smith.

They'll find one. They always do.

You're obviously going to see it through Black & Piss goggles so there's no sense arguing about it. Everything is sunshine & rainbows in your world as far as the Steelers go.

Let's see, VI Super Bowl Titles since the merger, eight AFC Championships and the most divisional titles in the AFC since the merger, what's not to love? YOU keep looking at everything in your Orange and goggles and tell us how that looks, OK? ;)

They are stacked on offense, minus the O-Line, but their defense WILL have a dropoff.

Maybe, but it won't be horrible. And, it will still probably be good enough to stay in contention for quite some time.

He's kept them at that level doing things his way. Sometimes, finding out what is working and NOT fixing it if it ain't broke is the smartest thing a coach can do. Thus, yeah, Tomlin's a great coach.

Any more dumb statements?
